I've got a Google home mini smart speaker which is linked to my Spotify, so when my kids say'ok Google play suchandsuch' it is playing from my account.
This is fine until I want to listen to something different on my phone and we end up in a weird tussle over who's in control.
Has anyone found a way to avoid this or do I just have to suck it up? Spotify premium if that makes a difference.
I used to switch to offline mode when my wife and I ended up in a battle for control. Especially annoying when driving as you can't be mucking around with it. You just have to go back online every now and then. However, in the end I just stumped up for Spotify Duo.
The answer is a family account. We’ve had peace since we upgraded a few years back.

Family gives you 6 accounts, if you only need 2 then look at Duo as it's a bit cheaper.
But yes either of these will solve your problem.
How long has Spotify duo been a thing?
A bit frustrating that I’ve been paying for Spotify family for years for only 2 accounts and they didn’t notify me!
Not sure to be honest but I did the same thing, it was only because I got divorced and went on to change back to a single plan that I noticed it 😂
Hmmm, I've already got premium family!
I think it might be to do with the way that the Google home mini is set up. As I was the one setting it up it is using my Google account and presumably my everything-else accounts as well ...
I can't find anything in the Google home settings that might help!

+1 on this. I wasn't even aware this was a thing. I wonder why Spotify kept it quiet.....hmmmmm.
I'll be swapping to Duo I think.

If you have voices set-up for the different accounts linked to your Google devices, then it should use the Spotify account linked to that account rather than using the 'main' account. Problem is, if your kids are using Spotify via the voice activation and they don't have accounts it will default to the 'master account'.
I am not sure how you can get around this. My daughter nicks control of my Spotify account doing a similar thing. There is a Spotify Kids thing within Spotify family, but I've not really looked into using that, or how it works.

I'm the same. This thread is the first I have known about it. Have been paying for a daily account for the two of us for about 5 years after doing the "offline mode" work around for a few years before that.
I think I'll email Spotify to complain about lack of notification and ask for a refund of the difference in account costs. Not expecting them to do anything about it though....
I have the same issue. We have the family pack and I've set up a 'family' email account and linked that to the shared devices. Bit of a pain, but it does make life easier
Well this thread has just saved me £3 a month. Duo now in use instead of family.
Glad to be of service 😁
Word of warning/caution for anyone with google devices and Spotify family + kids subs.

We moved away from google speakers and went down the Amazon Music route instead. Just wished we had done it sooner.
