The leaves still contain chlorophyll (the green photosynthesising pigment), they just contain other coloured pigments too. The colour will reduce the ability of these plants to photosynthesise but that would only be a problem in very low light levels

iirc, the red in some plant leaves protects the plant from excessive sunlight/sunburn and acts as a form of sun screen. Some plants with naturally red leaves turn green in poor light.
