I have a relative in St Johns Newfoundland who I would like to go and visit one day but I’m not too sure on what would fill a 2 week holiday.
We love outdoor stuff like walking and biking but we aren’t mountaineers (keen walkers but 10 miles max!) or pro MTB (my wife prefers the gravel bike type stuff) so looking at some things might be a bit much. Biggest walk I’ve ever done is walking up Yosemite Falls in 37c heat!
We don’t mind looking round cities but we aren’t shoppers really, love nice villages and stuff, not really interested in history to be honest.
Love big mountain scenery, dramatic coasts, lighthouses etc.

I was wondering if say a few days staying somewhere else other than St Johns might be a worthwhile mini break in the middle of the holiday?

Any experiences are welcome!! We can’t afford the flights right now but I’d like to look around to get an idea to see if it’s a thing we’d like to do.

Loads of wildlife stuff, whale watching, seals, puffins, etc.

St Johns has got a lot of nightlife, bars and restaurants.

Interesting place.

Not sure about the cycling.

I was there about 10 years ago for a couple of weeks. TBH it didn't impress me. Scenery was very similar to being at home, locals weren't that friendly, food was all pretty basic and unexciting.. It was like they wanted to bring in tourists in order to help the economy but didn't really know how to deal with tourists. Even simple things like suggested walks and rides, best viewpoints to see would help. It's fine discovering all that by yourself but when you've limited time to do so, some help us appreciated. Even some basic customer service. It reminded me of Scotland in the 1960s/70s.

We were near Corner Brook, not St. Johns. It might well be different now - and with the help of some local knowledge.

Not bothered about nightlife/bars/restaurants at all! As long as I can get a decent burger I’ll be happy. Would probably be eating with relative most of the time so they would probably take us to the best places.

Seals and puffins - yes please!! EDIT not to eat though!!!
