Okay, £500 budget, 2 adults 1 but preferably 2 nights, preferably on the continent between Christmas & New year.

Bombard me with ideas..!

Basically we used to go to Prague every other Christmas (pre kids etc.) between Christmas & New year & we’d love to do something similar, but realise we’ve got a shitty budget 😬

When did £500 become a shitty budget for a city break?

We sometimes use had a company called Journee, you fill out a questionnaire and they plan to your budget and wants but it remains a mystery until the day you travel. They give you clues, weather and packing lists, as well as in country guides and to-do lists when you're there.

Check them out: https://www.journeetrips.com/

Happy to fly? If so from where? I’ve done Bilbao a few times now and love it. Some good sightseeing, excellent food and drinking options especially down in the old town.

Bilbao is great, though I don’t know what the opening hours of the art galleries is like at that time of year? Not a such a good option if you can’t eat bread, or you’re vegan, but if that’s not an issue then a pintxos bar crawl is great!

So now you can see why we need a break..!

Just read about it closing - actually quite sad about that, it was a great little airport.

Madrid?  It will be quite lively, there's a good chance of the weather being decent, food is decent, pretty cheap really.

Alternatives would be Porto or Lisbon.

I'd just go with whichever of those 3 has suitably priced flights.

Luton to Prague, 27/12-29/12 £124pp with Wizzair. Leaves you £250 for hotel and food/beer.

Madrid from Luton is the same price, flying from East Mids adds £50pp and from Brum blows the budget out of the water.

Skyscanner is a wonderful thing… 🙄

Gdansk from Luton?

When I went, the airport taxi transfer was 9 euros and really quick.

Cheap food and drink options plus enough to keep you busy for a day or two.
