Off on my hols with Mrs Bloke on Monday. Getting the Portsmouth to Santander ferry which leaves at 21:30 with boarding an hour before. We'll be traveling down from Shropshire at a leisurely pace by motorbike.
Any recommendations for somewhere to eat nearish the ferry terminal? The bike will be fully laden with stuff I wouldn't want to be nicked, so ideally somewhere we can keep an eye on it whilst eating. The weather is forecast to be good, so eating outside is an option. Not after anything fancy, good pub grub would be fine but other suggestions also welcome. Mrs Bloke is vegetarian. I'm not but often enjoy veggie food.
Koi Thai tapas
or a little further along HUIS Belgium restaurant
both on a pretty busy road with on street parking (in broad daylight)
Or the Rocka, think i went there a couple of years back and it was understatedly good
Hardly fantastic Michelin starred restaurants, but Whitley Shopping Village has a good choice of chain restaurants and many overlook the large car park. I used it for this exact reason when fully laden and heading for the late night ferry from Portsmouth...
Thanks both. Liking the look of the Belgian place.
abarbistro Is good and has the benefit of having lots of window frontage and opportunity for sneaky parking outside.
When we cycled down, we ate at the Churchillian pub on top of Portsdown hill and then rolled down to the ferry. Not super special, but you can sit in the garden and keep an eye on the bike.
if you're on the hill, the Micks burger van is a thing of legend... it's local lore to hang out there in your first car in the middle of the night or if you are a biker...
2nd recommendation for abaristo - you will be able to park and sit outside in the nicest part of Portsmouth.
Some great suggestions, thanks all 👍 Spoilt for choice! Though I might give Mick's burger van a swerve if it's all the same to you @alan1977. It would probably result in radio silence from Mrs. Bloke for the remainder of the trip....
.... hmm on second thoughts let's not be hasty. Perhaps if I sell it as a bit of local culture? 🤔
Just down the hill from Micks is the Golden Lion in Southwick. Excellent food there and they always have some nice beers on tap too.
Mick's is a local legend and has to be visited atleast once if you live here
For good pub food then the Churchillian just opposite Mick's is good, look south and you have a view of Portsmouth, look north and you have a view of the Southdowns
You could head into Gunwarf which is just down the road from the ferry port, underground parking, bike should be fine as they are parked just behind the car park office, parking is free for motorbikes and you can rent a locker to store stuff, lots of choice for food, check out the Gunwarf website for a list
Word of warning about Abaristo, if the wind is in the right direction you can get a wiff of the Fish market and the dock directly opposite
You could also check out Port Solent, just outside Portsmouth just off the M27, lots of food choice and nice views of expensive boats
Go down the road to Southsea. The Koh Thai is meant to be very good, otherwise the Mayfair Chinese has been strongly recommended by a well-travelled neighbour (I live just over the Solent). Lots of seafront or roadside parking.
Needs update. Michelin will be going to print soon.

I regret to inform the assembled gastronomes, we dawdled so much on the way down, we were running a bit late for check in. We had a hurried detour to a nearby Aldi, to grab booze and picnic stuff for the boat (in what seemed like a 'characterful' area - I guarded the bike whilst Mrs Bloke went in). Don't judge me!

in what seemed like a ‘characterful’ area
That's Portsmouth
