Obviously North Yorkshire looks exactly like the Russian / Ukraine border because it's been non-stop military flights over our village for the last month. And today when the fast jets took a day off it's the bloody UAS in the world's most annoying small plane.

There will be increased movement by aircraft operating from RAF Leeming from 17 September to 2 October 2025. The Station will be hosting helicopters for a tri service exercise which will include low and late flying.
We understand our responsibility as good neighbours to inform the local community of such events that are additional to our normal flying activities and every effort will be made to keep the disturbance to a minimum.

References to Biggles must surely be vanishingly rare already, not many people my age have heard of him never mind read one, and I'm 50.

It’s not operations featuring fast jets and choppers British and European military needs to be developing and deploying, it’s cheap, sophisticated drones and anti-drone defences.
Using billion dollar/euro/pound combat jets and anti-missile systems like Patriots against a foam plastic drone costing a few thousand dollars is ultimately a losing strategy.

Something like the Phalanx radar-controlled rotary cannon system with overlapping fields of fire would be far cheaper to operate, using standard NATO ammunition, instead of half-million dollar missiles.

The Eurofighter Typhoon that departed from Southend Airport a few weeks ago certainly made a lot of noise.  Personally I thought it was epic 🤣

What type of plane do the UAS train in?  I heard something buzzing around the White Horse area recently(ish) performing manoeuvres, etc.  Maybe it was just a plane from the gliding club but they seemed to be practicing manoeuvres.

I'm sure the good people of Ukraine will be distraught to hear that your afternoon nana nap has been interrupted by some planes on training exercises.

We had a genuine complaint at work once from grandparents upset that helicopter noise was waking their grandchildren early in the mornings. Could we fly them later in the day.

Workplace was a tertiary hospital.

Fair enough @reeksy.

Apologies to @Flaperon for my grumpy reaction which I posted post-whisky consumption last night.

Glenn, if you talking Sutton Bank white horse, then yeah, the tow planes are often looping round. There's also a guy, I think flies out of Bagby airfield who is doing aerobatics, often comes out over Ryedale doing loops and stall turns. Bit annoying on a nice sunny afternoon. So yeah, piss off biggles!
