I have not replied . Anyone else receive this message?
link removed - mod
Try looking at the link URL...
I’ve just reported the user who sent me that message.
I’m not touching the link. Pain will follow
that is obvious scam.
yeah I received one earlier today..reported it to Pinkbike and then blocked the sender...
Definitely a scam - the tone of the message is all wrong.
I got it too, was on the phone on the move so did click the link as am selling something and thought it was linked to that, but sussed it as soon as it asked for verification using payment details.
Ditto, I got 2 today, ignored them both
Just got another
Were you in doubt about whether it was a scam, hence your starting this thread? And if not, why start this thread (genuine question) ?
You can read about how to spot scams here for example https://www.ncsc.gov.uk/collection/phishing-scams/spot-scams
Also are you the Jim from the £200 Merida ebike incident? https://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/psas-that-may-or-may-not-be-amazing-enough-to-warrant-their-own-thread/page/26/
No not that Jim.
as mentioned , I asked if anyone else had received it or basically just me.
I wasn’t expecting to justify myself but it is STW
I mean, it seems you had the sense to post the link to the scam for others to click, allowing the site owner to see traffic arrive at his door from this one.
On commission, are you?
I already know what you asked, because I read your original post. What I asked was why.
Just because I'm generally interested in helping people avoid scams, and to do that it's useful to understand what people think when they forward and repost scams to friends etc. Some people aren't sure and want advice, others might be wanting to warn others or just find it interesting but aren't clear about it so end up spreading the scam to people who fall for it etc. Hence my "genuine question" bit.
To be fair I didn’t think the link would post over and be usable. My bad
I often get emails something like this, including from institutions I regularly deal with, but if there’s the slightest hint that something is wrong I always click on the URL, on my phone or iPad (my computer isn’t in use at the moment), and block the clearly scammy source then delete.
