Not long after I met the girl that was to become my first wife, I travelled down to Lincolnshire to meet her parents. When we arrived after the long drive from Edinburgh, my prospective Mother-in-law put the kettle on and asked me if I liked pikelets. I almost told her I didn't like fish but the girlfriend intervened quickly enough with a translation that saved my blushes.

That looks suspiciously like a Scotch Pancake.

pikelet

Scotch pancake in my eyes. Pikelets are thicker than scotch pancakes, but have holes in them are have a firmish texture. Muffins are soft and fluffy but thick as well.

^ those are drop scones. None of your northern misnomers round here if you please.

And its wholegrain mustard or horseradish sauce on crumpets.

I made my own a while ago - thought I could improvise with a cookie cutter as crumpet ring it wasn't really working as they stuck to the sides so instead I just thought 'sod it' and started making ones as big as the pan. 9" dia, 1" thick crumpets can sure soak up a lot of marmite!
