This is a great thread, long may it continue to run.
OK! I don't have any more that I'm really proud of but here's a couple from last week!

Going for grittiness here:

Also quite like this from today's SXC race at Contin:

That panning shot is great - must have a go at learning to do that at some point.
Cheers Grum.
If I'm being honest, it was a complete fluke. I took lots of photos and achieved a very low success:failure ratio.
stuartie_c - what kind of settings were you using there if you don't mind me asking? Esp shutter speed 🙂
Here's the EXIF data Grum:

Exposure: 0.067 sec (1/15)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 18 mm
ISO Speed: 200
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
I just had my default aperture-priority mode with a large aperture to blur the background. Low light meant a slow shutter speed, but it was more by good luck than good judgement.

Thanks stuartie_c - will have to have a play at some point.

V10 - really like that candid shot of the girl catching the sun. Was it someone you know, or were you stalking your local park?
Just my other half having a nap, unfortunatly no stalking involved 😆

.duncan - I think I read in an earlier post that you aren't a professional photograher, but have you ever considered it as a part time job?
Your work reminds me very much of my Nephew who's only 21 and turned professional 2 years ago and he's doing very well out of it.
el_boufador - Is that a laser between his legs or was he just pleased to see you?
Have to agree with Bunnyhop - there are many fantastic images in this thread, but .duncan's are just a notch above - the snail macros and the dirt jump shots are visually stunning.
I'll console myself in my mediocrity with a picture of a cat's bollocks:

@ Bunnyhop & stuartie C thanks for the nice words.
I have vaguely considered it, although being in full time education still and soon to depart to uni to do maths any ideas have been put on hold.
a few since my last post (basically my 365):
@grum - Have you been taking pictures up the end of my road as well?

That match shot is awesome crewlie - how did you go about getting it?
tinribz - where is that?
@OCB - yes I've been stalking you for some time now 😉
Sometimes on this forum there can be a lot of arguing and petty backstabbing and pointless trolling, but deep down we're a pretty good bunch of people with a fair amount of talent and a thread like this proves it, and makes STW a decent excuse for sitting in front of the web all day.
Well done to all.
Some genuinely brilliant pictures on this thread all - really good to see that much talent - feel quite inspired now. Thank you!
Grum,
Bit late for a comment but...
that shot of the "twig" in the foreground with the sea in the background is my favourite one on here.
Beautiful.
Grum
Thanks.
Trial and error really.
Camera on tripod, flash on manual, big box of matches, and a wife who hates the smell of the things striking repeatedly:).Then cropped in and sharpened.

Duncan, that dirt jump pic on page 7 is awesome!
FeeFoo - thanks very much - I'll sell you a print if you like 😉
Cheers crewlie - never tried stuff like that but will have to have a go at some point.

You've got the http:// bit in twice, that's why it's not showing.
Bought myself a 50mm prime lens last week, so I was out playing with it at the weekend. Does make you move about a bit more, rather than simply standing around zooming everything.
Didn't quite get the focus right on this one, but there's something about it I like
[img] [/img]
Grum - you take some bloody good photos. Are they all straight off the camera, or do you play about with them to achieve the vibrancy of colour?
Thanks! 🙂
I tend to do a reasonable amount of messing around, though not always. I shoot RAW almost exclusively and import into Adobe Lightroom, which I think is great. I often add clarity and up the contrast, sometimes using the levels adjustments - also often use vignettes and graduated filters as well. Sometimes I will do (subtle) HDR, though not on most of these pics.
On this pic I actually toned down the saturation!
This one I think I upped the contrast a little which made the reds in the sky a bit more dramatic.
Shooting RAW seems to give you a lot of leeway in adjusting exposure, colour balance and fill light etc. If you don't mind faffing on a computer a little it's definitely worth it.
I'm not claiming to be any kind of expert btw but I've been pretty happy with my results. I do also shoot bloody loads of pictures and my shots/keepers ratio is not that great. 🙂
Seeing as this thread seems to be more of a nice photo sharing thread - I was thinking of making another thread to get some constructive criticism going?
Nice shag.
