OK! I don't have any more that I'm really proud of but here's a couple from last week!

Cheers Grum.

If I'm being honest, it was a complete fluke. I took lots of photos and achieved a very low success:failure ratio.

stuartie_c - what kind of settings were you using there if you don't mind me asking? Esp shutter speed 🙂

Here's the EXIF data Grum:
[i]
Exposure: 0.067 sec (1/15)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 18 mm
ISO Speed: 200
Exposure Bias: 0 EV[/i]

I just had my default aperture-priority mode with a large aperture to blur the background. Low light meant a slow shutter speed, but it was more by good luck than good judgement.

.duncan - I think I read in an earlier post that you aren't a professional photograher, but have you ever considered it as a part time job?
Your work reminds me very much of my Nephew who's only 21 and turned professional 2 years ago and he's doing very well out of it.

Have to agree with Bunnyhop - there are many fantastic images in this thread, but .duncan's are just a notch above - the snail macros and the dirt jump shots are visually stunning.

@ Bunnyhop & stuartie C thanks for the nice words.

I have vaguely considered it, although being in full time education still and soon to depart to uni to do maths any ideas have been put on hold.

Sometimes on this forum there can be a lot of arguing and petty backstabbing and pointless trolling, but deep down we're a pretty good bunch of people with a fair amount of talent and a thread like this proves it, and makes STW a decent excuse for sitting in front of the web all day.

Well done to all.

Just took the image address -

and pasted it inside image tags - you can use the img button and just past in the link above.

Flickr like you to link back to them - you can do it so when you click on the image it is also a link but I can never remember how.

Bought myself a 50mm prime lens last week, so I was out playing with it at the weekend. Does make you move about a bit more, rather than simply standing around zooming everything.

[img] [/img]

Didn't quite get the focus right on this one, but there's something about it I like

Grum - you take some bloody good photos. Are they all straight off the camera, or do you play about with them to achieve the vibrancy of colour?

Thanks! 🙂

I tend to do a reasonable amount of messing around, though not always. I shoot RAW almost exclusively and import into Adobe Lightroom, which I think is great. I often add clarity and up the contrast, sometimes using the levels adjustments - also often use vignettes and graduated filters as well. Sometimes I will do (subtle) HDR, though not on most of these pics.

On this pic I actually toned down the saturation!

[IMG] [/IMG]

This one I think I upped the contrast a little which made the reds in the sky a bit more dramatic.

[img] ?t=1273490864[/img]

Shooting RAW seems to give you a lot of leeway in adjusting exposure, colour balance and fill light etc. If you don't mind faffing on a computer a little it's definitely worth it.

I'm not claiming to be any kind of expert btw but I've been pretty happy with my results. I do also shoot bloody loads of pictures and my shots/keepers ratio is not that great. 🙂

Have only just started playing with my GF's DSLR. Hur hur...

This was just me experimenting with trying to get depth into a photo. I also like the light and shade on the petrol flap. Comments encouraged:
