Could you see anything through the viewfinder....

It's ok in bright light - you can focus and compose etc fine with it on. My camera also makes a pretty good job of judging the exposure correctly with it on as well.

This thread must be the best in ages! I'll try not to mess it up too much...

Grumm, you must be upping GF1 sales all by yourself, you should ask them for sponsorship (not that it's just down to the camera!)

I'm not 100% happy with the stitch but don't know what I did wrong, any help would be fantastic!

Aye OK, hills: yes. Sea: no! I'm in Basel, NW Schweiz (the Swindon of Switzerland), but even in the alps, whilst undoubtedly spectacular, there is just not the same light as a sunset over Argyll. Where are you Scotia?

Its quite funny that I read Talkphotography and end up finding much better photographs over here! Does it mean mountainbikers are out there with their cameras more often than some other people?

Excellent thread.

How do you do those ones that are B&W but just have one focal point in colour? (Like the brilliant chain link one on page 1)??

You need to create a layer using Photoshop (or similar). Using a selection tool like the magic wand, select all the pixels you want (like all the gold-coloured pixels in the chain example). This takes a bit of patience and some tweaking of the settings to get it just so. You then create a new layer with the selected pixels, de-saturate the background layer and you end up with something like this:

That one is a bit crude because the selection is quite rough - I got bored.

Also, if the thing you want to highlight is the only thing of that colour in the pic, you might be able to just desaturate all the other colours.

All clicky. Really annoyed that with the exception of the odd one, I'm still about 6 months behind with my processing! I've got much better lurking as RAW on my HD, but never any time to do anything with them. I guess it's better that than never any time to get out to take photos in the first place though...

The Anglesey shot is great imo. I've got literally thousands of RAW files on my puter. Most of em are rubbish though!

Cheers Grum. As it looks like I'll be out of work in June, and thanks to visa issues may not be starting in Australia for some time yet, I may have quite a lot of time to edit photos. I certainly won't be able to afford to drive anywhere nice to take any more...

My first experiments with black & white.
Taken at the crash site of B29 Superfortress serial no 44-62276, which crashed below Beinn Tharsuinn near Strachur, Argyll, in January 1949.

I like it, but constructive comment welcomed.

Some great pics here. Grum - really like both of those - been back for third look now! Agree with comments above re the first - it's a grower! Second just looks amazingly peaceful. Mostly though, I think I like them as they don't look processed to death - so many landscape shots do now 🙁

If you click on mine, flickr should let you see the exif data if you click on "more properties" down towards the bottom right. It'll probably even tell you where it was taken if I've been bothered enough to put it there...

Some inspiring photos on here - almost makes it a bit intimidating to stick up any of my efforts. We bought a DSLR for the wife initially, but I've started playing with it a bit and finding I quite enjoy photography despite years of being put off by camera snobs.

I found this little fella sitting on the path at the David Marshall Lodge in Aberfoyle a couple of weeks ago

[img] [/img]

There's something about the atmosphere of this shot I really like

[img] [/img]

Out of my office window - just grabbed the camera and took some shots before the moment passed

First attempt at playing with a polarising filter on a frosty morning

Love the toad/frog pic - yours is very nice too Robb.

Just been playing with my new (old) Konica Hexanon 50mm 1.7 - incredible lens, especially for £30

yet another sub-par couple from me from todays adventures down at Middlehaven:

Was using my D70 glued and taped back together as the area is quite dodgy and thought if some smackhead was going to steal my camera they might as well take a buggered one. The pics are shit but then I didnt want to get the camera out a great deal. There's crap on the sensor too which needs cleaning out.
