Wondering which stock agencies businesses tend to use?

I used to do some 'in-house' stuff for my company and now want to create some of my own to lodge with a stock agency as a sideline. Wondering which agencies are the most popular and what experiences people have had either as a buyer or a seller. Thanks.

Image sources for magazines would be of interest too.

I've started using Dreamstime as it's so cheap and the quality is getting better all the time. The search function is excellent which plays a big part.
That's from a buying perspective though. It must be hard to make money at it as a photographer/seller.

Thanks, that's interesting. I see some of the newspapers use Alamy credited photos.

We stopped in-house late last year & now use iStockPhoto for pretty much everything now.

Ski, wondering if many will take that route as stock libraries are so vast these days. Must be cheaper than in-house or buying someone in for a day if the libraries cover what you need. No waiting or booking people either I guess.

Also Rex and Getty - as they are the big two picture libraries that do editorial AND stock.

PA expanding their stock selection too, but probably all done in-house as they are notoriously careful with their money.

I guess its a easy snip for most in this climate at the moment, we have had no real negitive feedback from our clients or customers yet.

Apart from some comments....

na, not going to go there, that could be seen as being slightly racist agains our friends over the pond 😉

We take them ourselves or commission specialist photographers, but then we build things.

iStock here too.

If you're buying then make sure you check the licensing requirements. If you've any questions then call/email them and they'll get back to you. We're using some at the minute where we have to buy 2 x extended licenses for each image because they're being "used" in two different ways.
