I fancy a little photo project.
I want to fix a camera in a certain place and take a photo, every day at the same time and after 365 days, stick the photos onto my computer and stick it all together, making a collage to show the changing landscape and seasons.
The camera will be fixed on my property and I can easy access it for battery changes / memory card changes etc.
Any ideas on a camera I can use to do this? Want something I could leave me for a few days, something cheap would be better and a method to fix it to a rail.
Cheers.
GopPro? Or a cheap alternative.
This sort of thing - . https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07ZNQ2VRY.
Has a time lapse function, as I’m sure GoPros do
I’ve got an old GoPro 4 so not a bad idea. If I could figure a timer to ensure it’s the same time every day that would do it .
Raspberry Pi can do this.
Old phone?
Ah this reminds me of the film 'Smoke' and it's sequel. Great films. Harvey Keitel takes a photo of his Brooklyn Cigar store every morning from across the street.
i asked something similar recently on the forum.
Consensus was a raspberry Pi with camera (quite cheap and many examples on the internet on a step by step) or an old digital camera that has a timelapse function. i bought two old Pentax Optio w60s which are both waterproof and have time lapse. Only downside for all of the above is how to power them over a long time.
Another way would be to clamp a cheap tripod in place somewhere, then you won't have to physically leave the camera in place. (In fact regardless you probably want to use a firmly fixed mount to avoid movement due to wind/animals/etc).
Like the above - How about an in-car phone mount fixed to somewhere. Then you put the old phone in the holder, take the shot. Pretty sure my old iPhone had a time-lapse function. Unless you want an auto-timer, then you'd need a camera with that s/w.
GoPro Tutorials are available on Youtube eg.
Don't use a GoPro unless it's one of the very latest ones the image quality is pretty ropey.
