After some advice please:

Currently have a Sony Viao laptop (Windows 10) on which all of our photos and music is stored (iTunes for music)
We use apple products for Internet (iPad) and also have the Apple TV (3 & 4).
Also have a networked amp and a couple of music streamers.
The laptop is bursting at the seams in terms of space on the hard drive (297 gb used out of 298 available).
Would I be better getting rid of the laptop and putting everything into a Nas, would I still be able to use iTunes and access photos/music etc from Apple devices?

I use a Synology DS114 NAS for that: The Android app is very good and I use an Airport Express to play through my existing hi-fi.

How do you back up the laptop?
A NAS would still need backing up if it's your only storage.
Can't help on the itunes.

Laptop is backed up to an external hard drive (seagate expansion portable drive 500gb).
Not very clued up on this sort of thing, just that eventually we won't be able to add anymore media to it, so though some sort of larger capacity storage device would be better, don't really use the laptop for anything else as web browsing is taken care of on the iPad.

Yes, a NAS would give you storage, backup and apps for your devices to access (play/view/share) the files.
Synology has DS Audio and DS photo apps
QNAP has Qmusic, Qphoto etc.
They both have iTunes access through the NAS too.

Alternative is to sign up to a cloud storage solution and keep everything stored on the web (then you don't have to do your own backing up, but you are tied into a monthly payment to keep accessing your stuff)

You need to plug the NAS into something, ideally a wired network connection, ideally a spare port on your router.
