Sounds easy, but it's a significant challenge. I did it in 2010 and I'm going to try again in 2013.

This group has quite a few STW bods in it:

http://www.flickr.com/groups/onephotoeveryday/

And my 2010 set is here:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/stuartie_c/sets/72157623123047516/

It's very fulfilling to complete it and my memory of 2010 is incredibly detailed as a result, which is important when you can't remember much about the last month... ;o)

I tried it last year but my camera broke and i only had a really crappy phone camera so gave up! I have a decent phone camera now which is handy for this kind of thing! Also having moved to London there is plenty to take photos of every day now!

I'm in!

I was going to give it a go again, failed a couple of times 🙄
Working 12hr shifts, going to and from work in the dark kinda dampened my enthusiasm.
Have a TZ19 and a flexi tripod now so better equipped for difficult lighting. Son has given me an old PC with ps on it so might be able to do some "creative" stuff or at least try and " enhance " my images a bit. I do prefer seeing images as taken tho

Any thoughts on themed weeks/ months or just keep it simple?

Keep it simple.

Most people are content to just take a simple snap each day while others will set the bar higher in terms of creativity. I went through phases where I felt inspired and others when I only just managed a perfunctory snap of the cat at 10 to midnight.

There are monthly comps to keep you motivated too.

There would be too much delay between me finding just the right shot, photographing it, developing it, scanning it and uploading it to flickr...

... so I'm out 🙂

Good luck to you all.

I did it in 2009, 2010 & 2011 but needed a break in 2012, maybe I'll be back in 2014

If it helps those going for it this year you need to know the following.
It get's hard from Mid Feb but easy again from after Easter, you will need to pay to be a Flickr Pro user after uploading about 200 photo's (if you're not a member already that is) but it's only about £12 a year. Plus by mid year you'll want to buy another camera.

Here are my 3 years
2009
http://www.flickr.com/photos/25655510@N02/sets/72157612202073656/

2010
http://www.flickr.com/photos/25655510@N02/sets/72157622989236075/

2011
http://www.flickr.com/photos/25655510@N02/sets/72157625603952651/

Good luck and happy snapping

Determined to make this all the way through this time, usually given up after a couple of weeks in my previous attempts.

Also determined to take more than just photos of the sodding cat, as I have done in the past.

I've been doing it for 5 years now:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/manicstreetpreacher/collections/72157623350779833/

However a lot of the time I just end up taking pictures of random stuff at home because it's getting late and I've forgotten.

Will stick with Photo-a-Week again, I think.

Managed Photo-a-Day before (but there were a lot of 23:59 shots of anything just to not fail the challenge).

It was worth opening this topic as Flickr are giving 3 months free to all their Pro members if you click on the link on your photo stream homepage.

Not sure if I want to join the one a day group but I'll give it a go on my own.

I'll be beginning this again tomorrow after one successful year (2010) and two faltering starts (2011 & 2012). Probably mainly convenient instagram & smartphone piccies as I seem to have difficulty motivating myself to upload anything from an SD card these days 😕

Can you use a phone camera ? Or does it have to be a proper one?

Also do the photos have to be uploaded on the day or do they just have to be taken each day?

Nice idea, but I can't even do it with Bliphoto, cameras and phones are prohibited at work, and taking a photo going to work and coming home would be very tedious, and I don't go out much in the evenings. Great for people who are out and about during the day, though.
I wish I was... 🙁

Looks like the numbers may swell again this year!

I have done 2010, 2011 and 2012 and am going to keep going. This year saw far too many snap shots of my two wee boys, the cats and the dog so I need to try and get some more interesting stuff for 2013... it would be nice if life and the weather were on my side this time!

My attempts thus far...

The reason I love the project is that it just maps life - which for me has been mental over the last 3 years with so many changes that it is good to look back and be reminded of everything that has happened.

Now... what should I do for my first photo of 2013. I may still get out on the bike - but after a late night and an enforced early start due to "Number 1 Son" I am slightly less convinced and may leave it until tomorrow 😉

So, an idiot question...

I've joined the group.

How does it work? How do I choose which photo goes into the group? I presume when I upload 10 photos from a holiday that they won't all show in the group...

You take one photo every day and post that up on the group, you can take hundreds of shots that day but only the one that YOU think is best from that day can be posted up, no cheating as they are date stamped.

You can take a shot a day while on a holiday (or if your too busy to do it every evening) and post the shot a day up when you return in bulk.

What I have done is create my own 2013 group on my Flickr account.
You should have the stw group listed in "groups you belong to"
Select the stw group, click add.
You then get to select what photo you want to add to the stw group.

If I can do it anyone can 😉

Road ride would be excellent - lots of great routes around here as Paul says.

You can post at your convenience but you must TAKE one photo every day for the whole year. You can take more than one, obviously, but only one gets posted to the group. You might decide to post all 7 for a week on a Sunday, for instance.

Last one I did was organised by Sanny, riding out of Pitlochry and just by coincidence I came across a photie of the group yesterday. Will try scanning but not a great pic.....
His idea of an "easy Sunday" ride turned into a 50ml hill ride and darkness before we got back!! Nice warm up, beer and food at the Blair Atholl hotel with Peter Laing and others whilst Sanny rounded up and kept the stragglers motivated and pedalling 😉

Thanks for the help, however;

I use the Uploadr app on PC and my Android phone to upload pics to Flickr. Can I set my account so I can add a tag or select a set at the point of upload, rather than needing to upload and then remember to log in to Flickr later on to submit that photo to the group?

i.e. I want to upload a photo and by tagging it STW or adding it to my STW set, it would automatically be submitted to the group.

No. You need to explicitly add it to the group, as follows:

Click on the photo once to take you to the photo page (ie so that it is displayed on its own)
Click on the "Actions" menu at the top left of the photo
Choose "Add to/remove from group"
Find the "One Photo a Day 365" group and click to add to it.
