After years of buying cheap phones and breaking them all too easily or breaking phones whilst riding with them in my pocket I've bought myself a fancy phone and begun a 'no riding with phone in pocket' policy.
This means that every time I go ride I have to take my rucksack, the only bag I own is a Evoc FR20 enduro something or other, one of the larger Evoc bags anyway. I'm looking for another way to carry my phone without having to take the whole rucksack with me. Yes, you might just say don't carry your phone but when it has your phone, gps/map, camera and music all in one I usually have one reason or another to need it.
Options are 1) buy a fanny pack or 2) buy some kind of hard case for my phone, I'm quite happy carrying a few bits n pieces in pockets.
I've got a Samsung A70 which is 17cm x 8cm
Case wise i'm thinking something in between

And
I've got a Lowepro hard case for my camera which looks ideal but they don't make one the right size for my phone.
Otherwise maybe looking at the Patagonia 5L bum bag something I ridiculed friends for not too long ago...
Horses for courses and all that, I use:

inside
'Fanny pack' - is that like a merkin?
murica!
Bum bag
hip sack
fanny pack
waist pack
arse sack
Whatever you wanna call it
The waterproof part I'm not too worried about as I'll just use a sandwich bag or something.
You not worried if you fell on it, it would smash the screen just in that bag?
Check out Otterbox - they make some heavy duty mobile cases.

I use a dakine hotlaps 5l and much prefer it to the traditional style camelbak
LifeProof. They’re quite expensive but really good quality and guaranteed for 24mths and they do stand by their warranty
Velopac.
Phone survived my over the rope experiment last summer WAY better than I did!
I find wallet style cases provide very good protection as there's a lot of cushion.
Dunno if I could handle the style points of that frame bag!
lifeproof would be ideal but they don't seem to make one for my phone 🙁
Those Velopac cases look great, now just find a hard case version of that!
+1 for Lifeproof cases. Otherwise Osprey does a small running bumbag with a neat integrated phone pouch that might work but won't be fully waterproof:

Or if you want something slightly larger and bike specific:

Wiggle used to do them for around 50 quid, but they seem to have stopped selling them.
Check out Otterbox
+1 to this.
Otterbox and Liferpoof both look great but I've not got one of the mainstream phones so they don't do their proper fully protected case for it.
I'm thinking to buy some kind of bum bag and maybe try make my own hard case. I'm worried about landing on it and smashing it, even if it is in some kind of soft case it will still smash the screen.
For the price of some of these suggested packs and cases you could buy a cheap "feature phone" from amazon to take out riding, and save your fancier one to smash on the way out of the pub...
I think mine is a velopac one. Bit pricey for what it is but cheaper than a phone.
I've always had my phones in flip cases when out riding as they offer more protection. For years they've been ok in that case inside a pencil case in my jersey pocket. Will put it in a zip lock bag if it looks like it will rain a lot but has been fine for odd shower.
Loads of stuff on ebay/amazon if you want to go down the cheap route
Wallet style case, and then tucked away in my camelbak.
I ride with that Patagonia bum bag quite a lot, just wrap my phone up in a Buff and stick it in the elasticated bit inside. Does the job.
Fanny pack?
Oh FFS
That hard-case looks cool.
Imho, I never found fanny-packs to be comfortable on the bike.
(That was 30 years ago, tho).
You could try adding a shoulder strap to your fanny-pack.
I'd prefer one of those really small rucksacks with one shoulder strap and a waist strap.
