So I've gradually brought him into the world of phones over a few years; he texts etc and with the latest phone, takes pictures and sends them. All good. He actually really enjoys this and as a man that's got a lot going on, I want to encourage what he enjoys.
Thing is it's upgrade time and he's got glaucoma, so has expressed a bigger screen (Sony elm at the moment).
The camera is important as he really enjoys taking pics and sending them, but he won't get on with touchscreen, I'm sure. Maybe the touchsceen bit will be ok, but it needs to have proper 'safety' buttons. So I can say to him "if you get lost in the menu, press this nice REAL button and it'll take you to the start", a lot like the xperia arc I have.
Is there a phone with a normal keypad and a nice large screen that isn't touchscreen? I considered blackberry, but he won't get on with the 300 buttons on them; hell I wouldn't.
Any suggestions please for either:
a) A large screened phone with normal keypad and good camera or
b) A very simple to use Android touchsceen, but good quality screen?
c) Experiences of trying to get a near 70 year old into the world of smartphones?!
Thanks, Rich
Windows Phone 8. Nice big icons to touch - easy to see and easy to stab with the most clumsy of fingers (like mine).
Nokia 620 - £150 ish on PAYG. Great performance, nice screen and reasonable battery life.

Thanks Danny, I'll look at that.
Doing the same with 90 yr old - so far we have reached an understanding that it's mobile and therefore can, and should, be taken with you when you go out. It should also be turned on or we cannot call you. We have now moved on to elementary text lesson 1. Not sure I will survive long enough to get to photographs but here's hoping. 😀
