Anyone use them? Whats it like? Is it just a gimmick that you dont bother with after the first month or so?

Of course not.

It's £150 so you can control the colour and brightness of 3 light bulbs from your phone. What's gimmicky about that?

With an Amazon Echo and a bit of knowledge you can program it to respond to "Go to red alert!" and make everything red.

This is definitely worth it.

This is why i am looking into them @molgrips. I have google home and am in the middle of decorating/renovating the house.

I can see it would be nice to have "mood" lighting, but is it worth the hundreds of pounds to get it? That said I do like a gadget so will probably get a starter pack anyway 😉

I use them in my ally at home to get to the back door in the dark and find the keyhole. Was a simpler and cheaper solution than having the electrics rewired to have a switch outside. Bought on ebay 2nd hand, us IfTTT to switch them on and off, mine are just plain white not disco lights.

Now I'm thinking that I could write a progamme for the Echo to help get the kids to do something. Like make the lights red, play a siren and read out a countdown.

"Leaving house in T minus 10 minutes. All kids not ready will be left behind"

IFTTT or Stringify will help you do that!

We have plain whit Hive lights. I have 3 in outdoor lamps that come on at sunset and go off at Sunrise, we also have some installed in the lamps in the bedroom and downstairs. The bedroom ones combined with an Amazon echo are great. Just say the word and I an dim the lights and get Barry White on Spotify. 🙂

Your smartphone doesn't have a torch?

I have it and if I hadn't read this thread wouldn't of remembered I had it. I can't remember the last time I used it for anything other than normal white lights. The novelty soon wears off.

You could automate the whole school leaving process.

"Alexa, do I have time to play?"
"Yes, for eight minutes."
..
"Your eight minutes are up. Please proceed to the kitchen for breakfast"
..
"You have five minutes remaining to finish eating"
"Finish eating and now get your shoes and socks on"
"Do you ahve your shoes and socks on yet"

And so on.

I got some at Christmas, and I think they're ace. The other half was somewhat confused as to why, but came on board pretty sharpish. Controlling light levels from the sofa, having them automatically turn off when we leave in the morning, gently wake us up in the morning, stuff like that all pretty neat and shiny.

I've been using them for a while now, but I don't use the Phillips app, but thought OpenHab as part of my home automation.

As ^^ great for gradually coming on in the morning, tuning on when arriving home in the dark etc.

I've got them in most of the rooms in the house. Started off with the lounge but there addictive. Currently working on some man maths to justify doing the gu10s in the bathroom and kitchen.

Hall and landing are linked to sensors so come On/off automatically no need to flip a switch or get my phone out

I've got a few of them programmed to come on/off when we are not in the house to make it look like some ones in

We have 3 colour bulb in the lounge and the do create a nice effect for a romantic dinner etc

If your not sure if you want the colours have a look at IKEA they have just launched a range of smart bikes that will do most of what the Philips ones can for a chunk less cash.
