The worst car they have ever made is what the Peugeot mechanic said to my mum when hers broke for the zillionth time. 2005 car with 16,000 miles, piece of poo.

Puegeot :07 xsi owner here, great car to drive but riddled with small but annoying electrical problems. Mechanically reliable but I would avoid.

Previous diesel hdi 110 06 owner here. Got shot of it 18 months ago with a 'depollution system faulty' warning appearing intermittently. A quick google showed a myriad different reasons why this might appear, none of them cheap.

Was an OK family car until then, I reckon it had done about 80k when we handed it over, much running around town as it was our only car and we had two kids with the related taxiing services that entailed.

I would probably look elsewhere, but the practicality of the design and load-carrying ability is difficult to overlook.

Only ever had one trip in it where it didn't break down. Best one is when all the side airbags went off without warning - luckily I'd just pulled up

It's made by Peugeot. It won't be reliable.

I don'k know why people continue to buy these unreliable pieces of crap from France. If you want a vehicle that might not get you to where you're going, at least buy an Alfa - they're much nicer to look at whilst you're stood on the hard shoulder waiting for the AA!

I had a 3008 (company car). I hated it to its very bones. In fact, words cannot express just how much I hated it. I hate it still.

Hi mate im a trader, ive had a few of these and they are pigs to get rid of they have a bad reputation.
That being said they drive ok but all seem to have had lots of niggles, wheel bearings, engine lights, faulty mirrors and windows, lots of little bits and bobs that you dont want on a 5 year old motor.

DMF and clutches, injector leaks, turbo issues, electrical issues, wheel bearings, seized calipers etc. Had a couple of mates who had them. One weirdly got knicked by pikeys and was found stgripped behind a glut of caravans 🙄 to which he admitted they actually did him a favour as it was junk. Another gave it away when the injectors were leaking and needed the head pulled off to get them out. Neither of them have Peugots now............

So how would you rate the ford focus then thrusty just ?

I like peugeots but only as they are cheap. Yes they are niggly but ive yet to have one fail to start and drive me home , unlike fords and hyundais i have had.

There's a dead one on my driveway. Antipollution fault, and that's after I removed the DPF and flashed the ECU and did 20k in it. This is a DIFFERENT antipollution fault apparently. ABS sensor faulty so traction control also doesn't work. Main indicator/headlight switchgear unit behind steering wheel is fried. Full beam/low beam/off seems to be totally random and sometimes triggered by indicators.
Buy a non-common rail Passat or something like that. 2.0 gets 55mpg, the 2.0 HDI 307 never got above 45mpg.

For the money the Focus is probably one of the best. Not too technically difficult to fix and cheap as well. Pads and discs for £32 ish. Depends on what the OP wants. The SW has a taller roofline, but we used to get 3 bikes and 3 riders in a focus estate. Downfalls are rust in doors and panels and coil pack and leads etc. One mate who had the SW now has a Focus ST170 estate , 53 plate and although its a bit beaten up ( was going through house move and divorce at the time the pikeys nicked it and direct line would pay up, but thats another story, so got the focus to tie him over) and 2 years later and 20k miles is still going strong and he will keep it until it falls off the road, I suspect as happy with it.
Mates is a garage mechanic and his son has an 04 focus and is on 150k miles now and I did a cambelt change with him last week and goes, stops and is reliable.
Clutch is usually about 120k, but a 1600 or 1800 I believe is just a normal clutch , not DMF, so cheaper.

We have a 307sw 1.6hdi.

I must have been lucky with ours as its been fine for the last 5 years. It's had a few suspension bits in the front. But Sheffield has a LOT of speed bumps. It's had no engine management issues but the passenger electric window can't be put up from the drivers side. That's the only issue with it.

We have two extra seats for the boot which are ok for for people for short journeys. It has a glass roof which is nice and is incredible on fuel. Once got 81 mpg between Sheffield and keswick. If you do 65-70 on the motorway it will easily do 65mpg+

Mrs L used to have a (cat D) 1.4HDi. Clutch release bearing went at around 80,000 but nothing else to report. With the twin captains chairs up front it was a bloody comfy, if slow, way of getting to the Alps

my old fella has a 1.9d one on a 55 plate with 80K and it's been a fairly good reliable motor. My mate has a 2008 2.0 petrol auto which had (according to Pug UK) been made in 2006 and then stood in a malaysian compound before they were job lot shipped to the UK car supermarkets. He had a head gasket go before it hit 100 miles, power steering pump go before 5K, three boot catches, the steering wheel has crumbled to pieces and loads of electrical faults. It failed it's first MOT with 18K on the clock and the most worrying part was Peugeot wouldn't honor an ounce of warranty work because it was an import. Disgusting.

Had one as a hire car once. Understeer was alarming especially if you needed to turn sharply to avoid something.

Didn't break in the week I had it....!

Thought as much ,

The 1.6 diesel focus shares most of the componants you listed as going wrong but the peugeots half the price.

Wouldnt touch a diesel focus, they use the same engine as said about. Only petrol. Petrol is good as no egr etc.

INRAT!

I've had 3 when the kids where smaller. Practical, cheap to run and I never had a problem other than a gearbox problem on one of them,
Sold my last one with 155000 on the clock and the guy was very happy as it was mint. Not a single fault and every electrical item worked perfectly and the air con was as cold as a very cold thing.
If you look after cars, have them serviced and are generally "mechanically sympathetic" then most modern cars are excellent.
I would easily get 55MPG on a run.

Some people have problems with cars regardless of the make and model. My cars are serviced by a local garage by a bloke I know and I made sure everything was done on time or early. I also drove to Austria, Spain and France on a number of occasions in them laden with family and gear. Not a peep!
