Battery went flat on my van, charged it up van started straight up, then stopped. Was due for service and MOT the next day so towed it the 400yds to the garage. Put jump pack on it and it fired up. Got serviced and MOT then driving out of the garage went into limp mode, plugged it back in cleared the codes. Driving round the block engine light came on with the message “Engine fault, repair engine”  I am sure this is just another freak out because the battery went flat. Is it likely to drop into limp mode if I keep driving it? Garage is silly busy and can’t look at it till Friday.

What caused the battery to go flat in the first place? Needing replaced as a matter of course?
And did anyone take note of the fault codes before they cleared them?

Something similar happened on my Peugeot Boxer few weeks ago. Dud battery and it started to do strange things. It didnt go into limp mode however.

New battery, sorted the problems.

How many short trips do you make in it? If diesel, it may be 3 or 4 longer drive so the engine gets a chance to clean itself...might also help if you change up later than normal. Someone more aware of all this will no doubt be along to correct all that, but about 6 months ago I got the engine light thing and limp mode on the way to help with a Duke of Edinburgh expedition thing. Carried on to destination and when I started the car that night it was 'fine' - light was on but not in limp mode. Let the engine revs run higher than normal for the drive home i.e. I changed up later than I normally do and the next day I started it and the engine light was gone and no errors or warnings and it has been fine since. However, I do make sure it gets a bit of a drive more frequently these days.

Car due a service in December (and MOT in Feb)...I'm hoping everything is all fine, but there is an odd rattle when going over bumps and turning so I suspect I'll be getting told something in the front suspension will need sorting (so my hope isn't going to stand up)!

The check engine light means 'something is wrong or was recently wrong'. So at this stage, that's all we can say I'm afraid :). It could be absolutely anything.

I had the EML come on in the SMax a few months ago.  The culprit was a battery failure.  You seem to have battery issues and dumping charge is a common feature of a dying battery in my relatively limited experience .  If the battery is inexpensive and it doesn't have stop start...

If they just cleared the codes without noting what they are and not telling you what they are they're just silly. Busy or not. I don't know what people accept this from garages. Go to a better garage. People can pipe in with all sorts of things that happened with their car when the same light came on. The code (or codes) are 5 digits long - so theres a lot of them nobody on a forum is going to have a better insight in two what might be going on than the people you've just paid money to.

Not a Peugeot, but on my Toyota I had a set of lights - engine, parking break, stability system etc - that came on as a result of the engine coolant sensor failing. There is no logic as to which lights relate to what actual faults it seems. I eventually found my issue with a cheap ebay OBD scanner, and even then it took two garages before I found a mechanic who would listen and just replace the sensor rather than doing all sorts of checks on the braking system. Sensor replaced - all sorted.
