Can excel calculate the point at which diesel (mileage/increased cost/etc) becomes cost effective.

assuming you have cost per litre and claimed mpg (easy to go to cost per mile).

I'm guessing that this is one of those things that you thought "i'll never use this" about in school.

the answer is yes, but...

What you need to consider is the price of the car for both fuel types. mileage and the mix urban/rural does matter, then there is servicing costs, VED, etc.

But the biggy, is what will the price of fuel be in the future and more specifically what will be the difference between petrol and diesel.
