Been asked to do one of these as part of a recruitment process, it's runh through SHL. Anyone got any experience of these? Is there an obvious subtext, do you prefer working in a team or working alone type questions? Or are the questions a bit more cunning? It's the one test that doesn't have any practice tests online (for obvious reasons). I'm just wondering what sort of thing to expect (other than the police knocking on my door because of something about me that the test has revealed).

I did one a couple of weeks ago (though I couldn't tell you who it was through or if it was the same exactly).

The test consisted of 20 multiple-guess questions, of the "which of these four adjectives applies to you the most, and least" variety. They then later sat with me and went through the report.

Some if it's accurate, some of it's nonsense, as you'd expect in a short test. The upshot was that it said I was a geek, so time and money well spent for that curveball revelation.

I used to administer, interpret and feedback these at SHL. Just do it. If you try and second-guess the questions, that will show up in the results.

The OPQ is still arguably the most sophisticated of these questionnaires (they're not tests) on the market. It's all legit and there's nothing sinister about it.

It has been said though, that these instruments only encourage employers to think that, because they've now got a hammer, all their problems are nails...

The miricle of STW. THere must be someone here from pretty much every industry going!

Mr Woppit, any plans to make these tests and questionaires work on macs? I'm having to wait until the office clears out a bit before I can do it. Much rather do it at home but I have the "wrong" machine.

Sorry mate, they made me redundant in 2009. I'm no longer in the loop...

Best talk to the administrator, or try the SHL Client Helpdesk.

Thanks, it's probably quicker just to wait a while and take the test at work.
