Just moved my personal plate (yeah I know 🙄) to my new to me motorbike and ULEZ checker is telling me my 2018 registered bike doesn't comply! Plate is from a 1998 bike that I used to own so I'm assuming the ULEZ checker is just a dumb system and has gone solely by the plate rather than the bike details, if so there must be loads of cars suffering the same fate?

Just moved my personal plate

I would imagine the list it refers to gets updated at regular intervals.

I just bought a car (from a mate) and he had a private plate on it, took a few days (up to a week?) for the DVLA search & Volkswagen to pick up the change.

 How recently is “just”?

The ULEZ checker has been updated to the new bike - it took at least a couple of weeks before it changed on their system.

So next time I want to go to London I just need to copy the plates from my neighbours newer car.

Good to know, thanks.

Next doors otherwise non compliant Transporter is currently ULEZ compliant, apparently being an Irish import registered later as a uk vehicle the system thinks it’s newer than it actually is.
Which is daft.
I haven’t bothered to key the reg in the website to see for myself I must admit.

That's not right. You can't have a plate that makes your car younger.
I couldn't with my Irish registered car years ago and a mate can't with a vanity plate that is 66 but her van is 65 .

I thought this thread was going to be about buffets at travel taverns.

That was my understanding. I assume it’s an error.

Oddly enough I've just checked the 2007 bike I moved the plate on from & instead of saying it doesn't comply TFL are now stating that they don't know if it complies, so I'm pretty sure the system is just dumb. Will try & give them a call in the morning - shame I didn't check with the original 18 plate on the bike, then I'd know for sure.

I imagine there are all sorts of things you can avoid by using someone else's number plate.

Just phoned TFL & apparently they only get the updated info from DVLA every 3 months, so I have to send TFL a copy of my logbook & they will update their system 👍

Edit: which would be great except my 2018 bike is non compliant as it's actually 10% over the nox level, so not even euro 3 compliant 11yrs after the legal limit came in 😯

Probably why it is a bit illegal...

A neighbor had the same after moving their plate to a newer (compliant) car. Easily sorted with TfL though.

As far as I know Euro 3 was required by 2008 for motorcycles so not sure how you'd have a bike over that from a decade later. Manufacturers in the late 00s seemed a bit lax on registering that correctly though, I had to sort out a certificate of compliance for my 2007 bike to register it as ULEZ compliant as it wasn't showing euro 3 on the V5.

I've a Northern Ireland plate on my electric car and although the ULEZ checker even reports the correct car it says my ULEZ fee is £12.50 a day?

There's also a emissions zone in Birmingham and even with driving an EV I've not driven in since as all these systems seem to default to charging you unless you first register even through they can look the car up from the reg number and know if to charge.
