I never liked this road, it always felt like a death trap. Drugged driver 🙁

Driver arrested for drug driving as well.

Another needless tragedy.

I had this earlier in the year, a cyclist was killed on a stretch of road I ride regularly (in fact I'd ridden it that morning). It really shook my confidence.

I've no idea what the outcome was in the end but if the driver above was on drugs I really do hope they're suitably dealt with (not always a given).

As always it must be terrible for the cyclist's family and friends.

Dreadful news.

It's not a great bit of road layout, assuming it's the part that straddles the motorway, but how else can you get to the bridge from Alveston/Olveston? Would be happy to find a safer (or quieter) route.

@hightensionline

There is no real alternative not use use this bit of road to get Elberton, Olveston etc. They only way around it is by going out of your way back to Northwick then Biksham Lane.

Nearly every time I'm forced to use this bit of road, an incident occurs. It's deadly, literally.

Tragic ending on the weekend. Driver will only get a light wrap on knuckles as always :-(.

I will get onto Aust Parish council and possibly the County Councillor and highlight this deadly road in our Parish.

I hadn't really thought about an alternative, I've just been subconsciously avoiding it all together - either sticking to the lanes this side of the Severn or driving across to Chepstow and riding from there.

With the segregated cycle lane going in along the A38 and down into Thornbury hopefully one day there will also be a proper link to the bridge

One of our local clubs were doing a camp down in Calpe over easter, drug-driver ploughed head on into the bunch, killing one rider and hospitalizing his son (who needless to say had watched his father die on the road).
Unsure of the specifics in this case, but Sunday mornings around 10am are very sketchy - nightclubs are often out of town, kids drive to them, sleep in the car for a couple of hours after, and drive home off their tits thinking they've sobered up.

@bob_summers

 🙁

Getting so bad out there it's unbelievable. Standard of driving is so poor and the vitrol they are being loaded with is exacerbating the problem.

I don't like being driven from the roads by other users, but some major roads have become complete no goers. Even though I have a complete right to be there :-(.

As Joesy Wells said "dying ain't much of a living."
