As per the title really. How much is a van worth with free diesel and unlimited use (without taking the piss though) as part of your salary package?

An absolute fortune, although I doubt the tax man knows about your deal, so I'd keep it quiet.

If it's enough to go without a private vehicle, quiet a bit - if it's not than the value of the fuel you can use in the van you don't have to use in your private ride.

Convienence factor? Not much for me, I've used roof mounted carrier for years, never wanted a van.

I should add we've got a van in work, it's free to use any evening or weekend, free fuel etc. I've used it twice in 2 years.

I would say £100-£200 per month? But it depends on how much you get taxed on it and how much it is worth to you.

I have a company van and fuel. If it is a true 'van' ie two seats, not a crew cab then:

It costs tax on a flat rate of about £3200 for the van and £600 for the fuel (changes by the year).

So if you are a 20% tax payer then you get a brand new van and all running costs for £650 (van) and £120 (fuel) so £780 a year or £65 per month.

If you pay 40% tax then it is a total of about £1600 a year.

I can just run the van (VW of course) without any other car, so financially it saves me a heck of a lot. BUT beware of the van speed limits!!

So it is worth (to me):

The cost of buying / renting a vehicle for a year (£200pcm), insurance costs (£30pcm)*, tax cost (£10pcm)*, MOT cost (if old enough), tyres (£10pcm)*, fuel (£150pcm)*... total of about £400pcm.

With tax (20%) and NI I would need to earn £500 a month more (on my basic salary) to pay for it, so worth £6000 on my salary, minus the £780 it costs me... so about £5000??

*Disclaimer - all these figures are guesses as I don't actually pay them... but I think they are close.

Hmm... thinking about this, I am probably lucky in that my work van is by choice, instead of a company car.

If it was a work van, full of work tools, or not to the size / spec I wanted then I probably wouldn't see it as a 'perk', more as just a vehicle I had to drive to do my job.

£300.

£350 if it comes with shitloads of flashing lights.

You'd need to pay me £300 if it had "Welfare " written down the side.

£700 a night if it's an Escort Vehicle.

You mean a vehicle for your escort business?

Depending on the van, have a look at comcar.co.uk (it might be on there)

This is what my company use to sort all the info for company cars.

I guess mine is probably worth about 3000 per year in salary (car and unlimited fuel (for now))

Depends on a lot of factors really. Mine is supplied and fully serviced/fuelled/taxed/insured etc by work.

It saves me £3k a year on fuel purely for commuting to and from work.
Then there is all the other mileage I do in it.
So it's well worth it just for that.

Then there is the cost of buying, servicing, taxing and insuring. So a massive amount in total.

Worth checking to see if the other half can be insured on it, one fully inclusive company car I had included my wife on the insurance, saved the use/fuel on her car and she used it more than i did for private use.
When I last had a van i didn't have it fully inclusive, so paid less tax and they only charged me 11p per mile for personal use.
