Was thinking about taking my two lads to this....worth a visit?
Will we get a decent look at the cars or will it be so busy as to be pointless?

Autosport? I've not been for a while but its definitely worth a look. It takes a whole day to get round this as the live action arena effectively swallows 90 min. Take ear defenders for the arena as anything with anti-lag is going to make you deaf. The main bottle-necks are the food outlets so I'd pack a rucksack with sarnies and plenty to drink.

I've been on the trade and public days. Public days obvs much busier but it's a massive venue and I've never witnessed a log-jam.

I'd go.

Yes – I was intending to go but ‘stuff’ means I can’t this year.

Davesport
…so I’d pack a rucksack with sarnies and plenty to drink.

My two-penneth…
All drinks and catering are expensive. The cloakrooms are good (£1 per item) and close to (outside) the main entrance. Bag of food / drinks left at cloakroom can be accessed (although not taken away unless you pay again) throughout the day. Check what time the cloakrooms shut!

The main halls are warm, you won’t need coats. If ‘my two lads’ are little ones, take another bag – all coats in bag in cloakroom for £1.

…or will it be so busy as to be pointless?

I would always aim to be there as the show opened – gives you the first hour or two with plenty of space, but never been a problem.

If you search flickr for last year e.g. ‘autosport 2018 nec’ you’ll get a good idea.

Thanks for the informative replies looks like it would be worth the trip down from North Yorkshire.
I’ll always remember my old boy taking me to motor shows - I used to love em.

We went last year with my 2 boys who were 8 and 9 at the time.

It was a good day out but as others have said, take sandwiches.

Went in 2017 for first time in 10yrs, left feeling quite disappointed, lots of trade stands but not as much in the way of display cars, oh and £12 to park in the car park.

oh and £12 to park in the car park.

I went today for a look around with a couple guys from work and it's £16 now! The person on the gate said you can save money by doing it in advance the day before though. It seems like theres less there every year but if you're into cars definitely go.

I left the show at the same time as Edd China, I didn't realise just how tall he was. Turns out he was parked near us so as we were walking back to the car I kept having the urge to introduce myself and say "hold out your hand son"

Went today, first time on a public day (usually go on the trade days for the engineering show).
It seemed small this year and a bit Megh.. wanted some spot welding drills and only 1 stall had it(but wrong type).
Also went with the credit card for an impact wrench but came out heavy handed. The live show was ok.
Overall was ok and son enjoyed it, Got him to sit in a ferrarri race car. Would have been a bit miffed if paid full price.

Never been before so nothing to compare it to however we all enjoyed it.
Yes it was an expensive day out all in all what with ticket prices and parking but the kids will remember it for a long time I am sure

I used to go every year with my son. He's at university now doing automotive engineering. I'm not sure if the two are related.

Went yesterday with the 2 boys, they enjoyed it, loved the Live arena show and seeing all the Exotica supercars etc.

Highlight for them though were the little battery powered carts they got to go on as there appeared to be very little rules regarding ramming each other which they certainly did!

For me the Live show was ok and didn't see the whole show given 1 was carrying the youngest after a while. Still good fun and they want to go back next year.
