My lovely old K100d has finally succumbed to 'card read error' that means it is all but useless as it just refuses to take pics about 2/3 of the time. I've cleaned SD slot, tried multiple cards, all the same.

I'm looking for new body, has to be Pentax mount, ideally water & muck resistant. I'm not bothered about latest model or daft pixel count (the K100d is 'only' 6mp and takes lovely pictures).

I'd consider a smaller camera (Q series?) or stick with full DSLR.

Ideally less than £150....

I'm a bit of a Pentax fan, had them since I got my first decent SLR (P50) then got a Super A and now using a K50 (16MP), which I really like, you can use up to ISO6400 without masses of noise. Theres the K70 (newer version) and the KP, but both of those are probably out of your price range.

I reckon you should be able to pick up a K30 or K50 body for your budget and then you can keep your existing lenses.

Q series have a non PK mount so I don't think you could use your existing lenses without an adaptor though.

If you're going to bin the K100D then I'd be interested in it for spare parts.

Another Pentax fan here as I can play with lenses bought in the '80s, must get rid of some of them sometime. K3 is what I use although very solid and weighty you get used to it. I' ve a k30 it needs a repair can't remember whats up maybe just a new battery

Ok, I'm ruling out anything that's not PK mount so not Q series.

As I think about it, k100d is quite small, so k50, k70 or even k5 would be a smaller and lighter (so I'll take it out) option.

The K3 and K5 are both quite high spec with metal bodies, so will be heavier.

You'll also struggle to find one in your price bracket I'd think.

redmex, the K30, its not the black frame (underexposing massively) issue? I know what the fix is for that!

There's a fix to the underexposing???? apologies for thread hijack. I was just going to recommend a k30 as I loved mine but basically started just underexposing things hideously.

I've had a k5 for 6 years now.

One got nicked, the replacement has needed repaired (£150).

It's had a whole pint spilled on it and is still fine. Takes great photos, surely they must be a  cheap buy now?

Wildhunter2009 theres a solenoid within the body that operates the aperture when you take a picture. They can jam up. You have to open up the camera body and replace the solenoid.

Its a known issue with the K30 and K50.

The K5s have held their value quite well, you see them on e-bay for £200-300+

I'm from Glasgow originally, but moved to the south coast 22 years ago.

If you want to attempt a repair, have a read of this

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/151-pentax-k-30-k-50/321871-k-30-k-50-aperture-block-failue-repair-solution-available.html

It goes on a bit, but there is some useful info and links to how to fix the problem. Two schools of thought on how to repair it.

One is the filing method of the existing green solenoid. (it'll make sense once you've read the first page or 10).

I had an instance of this with my K50 earlier this year on a bitterly cold day. I've filed the horseshoe on the solenoid and not had a problem since.

The other method is the replacement of the green solenoid with the better white solenoid, which should be a permanent fix.

I've got a K5, its great but the metal body weighs a ton, i got it discounted just as the k5ii came out, and i think the k50, it was pretty much a toss up between the two spec wise but the 'cheaper' camera was substantially lighter if you plan on taking it out on a bike.
