Anyone recommend a walk taking in the Pen Y Fan summit, that's a little longer than the 4 miler from the car park? Youngest's birthday and he wants to walk up a mountain on it .. we're nearby on hols so it seems a logical choice. Any other hill walks nearby to recommend also gratefully received - thanks!

You can do the whole horseshoe...

About 10 miles I think

Edit: has the added juvenile pleasure of walking up Big Fanny.

+1 for the horseshoe walk, and stop to admire the stone pitching on some of the paths on it which I laid many years ago...
Not mountains (although steep in places) but the waterfalls walk further south in the park at Ystradfellte is good too.

Coming from the north via Cwm Llwch is so far superior to the Storey Arms track, that I can't believe its not rammed with people. And its not. Up to the Llyn, then the ridge to Corn Ddu and PyF, after that depends how far east you want to go before descending, though walking along the roads and paths at the end to get back to the car can be tortuous...

Or the Connoisseur's route approaching from the North (might depend on how young your Youngest is):

Thats doable and looks great - youngest is 8 (will be 9 on the day) but he did Snowdon last April (up Miners down Llanberis) and loved it so 7 miles will be well within him. Is it very exposed? More worried about Mrs B than the boys in that regard, she's not as keen on cliffs as they are...

Good call on the waterfalls, noted thanks!

I took my young lads up starting at same point as that last route to the north (lovely ascent) then went east round the base of Cribyn before heading north along the ridge and back along a lane to the car. A decent destance but nothing too much for an 8/11 yr old boys at the time

Did PyF on the bike once, with a couple of mates; not entirely sure I’d want to walk it now, my shonky knees couldn’t cope with all the step-downs near the top!
Fun with a 6” travel full-sus, though.
