So my partner has her own place which is late Georgian top floor flat in a conservation area, she has just been refused cover by Pedalcover as the building is too old (the underwriters decision not which is surprising as the building is insured separately by the leaseholders so it doesn’t make sense to me.
She is a co-leaseholder of with the other 2 flats and the bike is kept locked to the wall inside the substantial front door (2 Banham security locks/London bar and a Yale)
She mentioned yellow jersey as an alternative? Not heard of them but the bike is just a £1k hybrid so not like my stable of road bikes. This is north London so will not be cheap.

Any recommendations welcome.

Barclays.
Cover up to 3.5k, and accidental damage cover.

Edit...5k

If that's the only bike then you don't need special bike insurance. Any household insurance will probably cover it. As mentioned above Barclays are actually pretty good

Aviva are the underwriters for Pedalcover, you don’t mention how old your property is.

I thought it was Axa?

Just checked. It's Axa

So they’ve blanket refused cover on every “old” house in the UK? Seems a bit click batey tbh

Err, "late Georgian" probably covers it. And it doesn't mean the builder was called George or that he had timekeeping difficulties.

no idea? i just repeated what my GF was told and the thread title just says “Old” which is open to interpretation and would obviously have to checked with Pedalcover of the exact dat/period.

Axa? Aviva? i can see what i mixed them up!

will pass on the Barclays recommendation.

Not necessarily mine paid out £500 tops for a stolen Cannondale. She may be able to get it covered as a named valuable item on standard insurance IANAIB.
