Any hidden gems?
I'm looking for places No more than an hour from Stockport. Idea would be to park
Up and pootle ON bike for a few hours max, nothing muddy or hilly. TheN get A sandwich and coffee in a nice village.
Would soewhere like Tideswell fit the bill?
There's a dismantled rail line that runs close to Tagg Lane ice cream farm. Pick a spot along there and ride for lunch/ice cream.
Tissington, High Peak, Monsal and Manifold Trails all ideal for a pootle. Might need to double check cafe opening times now we're into autumn

Not if you're avoiding hills. It's pretty lumpy around there. You could always go out to Ladybower and ride the low level stuff around the reservoirs, maybe start from Bamford if you want somewhere villagey, but it's not exactly a hidden gem. You could always extend to Hope along that flat rail trail thing that I can't remember what it's called but is flat. Or Hathersage for that matter.
Personally I'd consider meandering out from Stockport into the Peak via Marple say, grab a coffee, then potter back using canals and flat things. Or potter over to Marple and pick up the Middlewood Way down to Bollington then come back on the canal? I don't really get the 'drive to ride' thing, but then I don't live in Stockport.
Or as above, rail trails: Monsal Trail from near Wormhill is pleasant and the tunnels are quite cool. You can mix all this stuff up with back lanes and easy bridleways for added distance / variety etc. Again not really a 'hidden gem', but that's the Peak District for you 🙂
Great thanks all. I guess By hidden gems I wanted quiet But guess midweek school term will hopefully be. Thanks again 👍
Park at Millers Dale station, Monsal Trail to Hassop or Bakewell for tea, cake or ice cream then back the way you came?

Park at Hassop Station, big breakfast, ride up to Millers Dale for coffee, coast back down to Hassop for lunch.....
Works just as well @morecashthandash was only trying to keep the starting point closer to Stockport but choice of food at Hassop is indeed superior 😀
nothing muddy or hilly
Just be aware that the canal towpaths can get VERY muddy if it's been wet for any length of time. Splashy gritty shit...
The rail trails hold up a little better, especially Monsal as it's more sheltered but again, it's just compacted grit so it'll get splashy. However they are flat!
Middlewood Way is nice, down to Bollington from Marple and you can ride out to Marple easily from Stockport up through Woodbank Park, along via Goyt Hall Farm (gravel track) to Chadkirk and then onto the canal at Romiley. Middlewood Way goes from by Rose Hill Marple station more or less directly south to Bollington and you can come back via Macclesfield Canal. I do it as a night ride sometimes.
Another option is
- Middlewood way to Pott Shrigley/Higher Poynton
- into Lyme Park via West Park Gate (it's a climb, but a very steady one)
- sandwich and a coffee in the (surprisingly good) café there
- into Disley via the main drive/Red Lane or the East Gate/Green Lane (former being pretty much all downhill, the latter having a couple of climbs put nothing much but more interesting overall)
- onto t'other canal in Disley, back to Marple or Paper Mill/Strines/BWs to Roman Lakes/Marple.
