As there seems to be loads more films available from lovefilm and netflix to stream on a pc than on the xbox, what do I need to connect my laptop to my tv to get sound and vision, sound can go to either tv or surround amp, picture to tv only.
Hdmi will take both to the tv.
Dvi will do picture only.
Sound can go via jack plug as normal.
If you don't have Hdmi, dvi out the resolution will be low for desktop but ok for films.
S video and vga are useable but not the best.
If you want to do it better have a look at some of the small pc's . There was a thread yesterday I think. I have a shuttle pc with win 7 and media portal to do everything. Can even set up as a recorder.
Sorry, forgot to say that TV is CRT and laptop does not have hdmi out
Then you are down to whatever the out is to whatever in you have. Desktop res will be bad but ok for watching tv or film. However probably waiting for dvd is better
I've tried it in the past and IME it looks crap regardless of which TV converter you used. I'd really suggest looking at a new TV if it's something you want to do regularly.
