The other Pc won't let me in. It will let me open the wifes account though. Neither is passworded. I get the message
"The user profile service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded"
Service IS mentioned twice, not a typo.
Thought I would try a system restore from the wifes side but that wants an admin password. Can't say that I ever set one up so absolutely no idea what it could be. Tried nothing and that doesn't work either.
suggestions please.
Damn machine was working fine when I looked around here about 4pm. no updates or anything that I am aware of.
Rebooting doesn't work.
A mate called. Told me how to get in via safe mode. Lets see.
What OS?
The admin password on XP Home is blank, just hit Enter.
Do a chkdsk - right-click on the C: drive, Properties, Tools, Check now. Tick the first box but not the second, then reboot when prompted.
sfc /scannow from a command prompt will check the integrity of Windows itself. In post-Vista OSes you'll need an elevated prompt (Run as Administrator).
System Restore, you could try shift-rightclick on it, and Run as other user. Then bang your credentials in.
You should be able to run it in Safe Mode too, that's not a bad call.
If there is an Administrator password
open a command prompt and type
net user Administrator *
Hit enter, it'll then ask you to choose a new password
Sorted thanks.
