Sorry if I'm behind the times with the correct nomenclature...
A friend of mine owns a largish business and there's a lad in the village he would like to employ. He's asked for my help as I seem to be his go to guy for obscure items.
This lad is an extremely bright guy but has some severe physical problems. He's wheelchair bound and has restricted mobility in his arms so a normal qwerty keyboard is hard for prolonged use. The role will be fairly dependent on PC use. The office is open plan so speech to text (or an amanuensis) is out of the question.
So (and fessing up that my reputation for problem solving is mostly down to STW answers) does anybody know of suitable tech to make this kid's life a whole lot better by securing him a really good job. My friend wants to get this sorted next week. Money's not really an object. I know somebody who works in a nursery for CP kids, and they have some amazing tools but I don't really think that's going to be a fruitful avenue.
There are lots of ways of doing this. try someone like https://www.abilitynet.org.uk/
Thank you TJ I'll take a look.
I take it you've already checked if this is something he's already found a solution for at home?
There's all kinds of different keyboard designs out there - it sounds like the kid is able to use a regular one but its an issue of comfort over long periods? You could start by looking at mini keyboards or split designs that minimise the arm movement required, there's some examples here (I can't recommend anything specific): https://www.posturite.co.uk/ergonomic-keyboards.html
There's also things like upright mice and movable keyboard stands which could help.
