Haven't owned a decent PC for years and years so never felt there was much point playing any games on it other than adventure, strategy type stuff that doesn't require much graphics.
Just bought a flash gaming laptop for video-editing purposes so feel I might as well get some use out of it! No idea what's good in the world of PC gaming.
Any suggestions? Something flight / spaceshipy would be cool. One of the Star Wars games maybe? Not fussed about it being the latest and greatest. In fact, something for a year or two back that's going to be on Steam for a tenner would be ideal!

Elite is a good one, I always preferred the X series myself but it's more of an acquired taste and doesn't have the same level of polish.
If you're after something with more action then Freelancer or one of the classics like Freespace 2, but they won't be showing off the capabilities of your new laptop.
Or if you want some strategy games you might not have played, check out Civ 6, Stellaris, Rimworld.
Farm Simulator 17 or on the 20th November, Farm Simulator 19. Best. Game. Ever

There's an open source project which has remade all the Freespace 2 assets for a modern PC.
