Hi all. I previously used a QNAP nas drive for my backups. It was convenient and worked well for access to stuff when i was away from my laptop, but I guess that was its vulnerability as I got hit with a deadbolt ransomware attack which stuffed all my pdf's so i've lost faith in it, probably as i found it too complicated so its now a book end. It somehow prevented automatic software updates. Luckily i had backups elsewhere that was not connected to the internet. I'm by no means a PC guru, so could anyone suggest a system that would be simple to setup and use that would auto backup when on my WIFI for example? Hardware and software solutions considered. I can live without remote access. Cheers.
How much space do you need?
Guess 2TB would be sufficient as I have just tried backing up onto a 1Tb ssd and not enough space.
OneDrive?
Anything if it’s easier to use.
I bought PCloud lifetime sometime back, works well.
Backblaze for backups.
It sounds more like you used the QNAP for ‘cloud’ storage rather than as a backup?
If cloud rather than backup solution then OneDrive should be OK.
Hardware? I’d suggest a Synology NAS but you might be off NASs?
Yeah I guess I am. I’ve lost trust in Qnap certainly.
I use idrive for this (nothing to do with apple). Think it's 50 odd quid for the whole year full price but on deal at the moment for about 8usd/yr and it does hourly backups.
