I've just purchased an external hard drive for my PC and want to transfer the entire contents of 'my documents' folder onto it. I know how to do this but what I want to know is how do I set my PC to save future pictures, music etc onto the external drive instead of the internal one? Any help much appreciated. Oh, and I'm running windows XP, ta.

Just move your My Documents folder location

Easy to do, but not 100% reliable IME. I did the same thing up until recently.

You'll be backing up the contents of the external drive to another location on a regular basis, won't you ❓

I'd suggest that moving a 'special' folder such as My Docs to a removable disk isn't a great idea. Better to backup / sync the existing local folder to the external drive, or move subdirectories instead.

That said, if that's what you want to do, Stoner's link is what you want.
