Hi folks.
I've just had an email from Paypal <limited@paypal.com>. The gist of the email is that due to repeated failed login attempts (not by me) the account has been temporarily suspended. It then asks me to download an attached form and follow the instructions to restore the account. The form is called SLOBOZ.html and the email is signed off "sincerely, the Western Union Team". The email gives no mention of any personal info (eg my name, my paypal user name etc, it just starts "Dear Paypal member".
Incidentally, my credit card company recently sent me a new card and cancelled my current one due to suspicious activity, but nothing ever appeared on a bill.
Is this a genuine email or some sort of scam? I've not opened the attachment as yet, as it all smells a little fishy.
Cheers for any advice.
scam
Thanks, just found this on the paypal site:
Check the email greeting: Emails from PayPal will always address you by your first and last name or the business name associated with your PayPal account. A PayPal scam email may include the salutation "Dear PayPal User" or "Dear PayPal Member"
Look out for attachments: PayPal emails will never ask you to download an attachment or a software program. An attachment found in a PayPal scam email will often contain a virus that can harm your computer or compromise your PayPal account
Hmmm... that's a tricky one. Might be a scam. I had a similar email from a chap in Nigeria, that all sounded really good but turned out to be a scam as well.
Why didn't you just go to a new browser page & log into Paypal & see if it really was locked out?
scam BTW - a very obvious one at that
If you have to ask, it's a scam.
Next.
