I've noticed quite a few listings from individuals have the credit card logos listed on the payment bit.

Is this a default thing? A mistake when listing? Or do eBay somehow facilitate credit card payments for private sellers now? Googling it has not really helped - so over to the hive mind.

I don't think its anything new but I'd only ever use PayPal - love it or loath it PayPal is the safest way.

I can't say that I've ever noticed the credit card option, but I'm not a big Ebay user.

I've just opened a default seller template and payment options default to PayPal; however there's a "Additional offline payment methods" link which opens up a variety of other methods of payment including credit cards.

It used to be the case that the credit card icons lead to a one-off card payment to Paypal, without the need for a Paypal account. The seller just sees the Paypal payment (and I think pays the standard Paypal fees). I haven't used the card icon since I had a Paypal account, which was many years ago, it may have changed.

That would make sense, ta.

Don't want to confuse sellers by asking if they take credit cards, but it would be very advantageous for me to use a CC in this instance.

I always use CC through PayPal when buying on eBay. Just seems like the best option

I also use my card, for business and private sellers. If anything goes wrong I'd rather contact my bank (Co-Op) than all my emails disappear into a void at Paypal and I am unable to do anything about it.

I thought there was sonething in the way it worked that meant you lost the CC protection anyway?

The CC pays paypal, paypal transfer the money. So if you have a problem the CC dont have to refund you as the service you paid for was provided, the CC had no direct connection to the goods.

I had this recently, I needed to pay with my work credit card for goods bought on ebay. As others have suggested, it involved putting the work card details through a PayPal transaction.

However, I then made some non work ebay purchases, paying using PayPal, but which were taken on my work card. It appeared that even though my PayPal account was set up to normally use my personal card, purchases through eBay were defaulting to the work card. I had to manually remove the details from my eBay account.

If you pay on a CC through PP you lose S75 protection.
