Okay Driving Gods, lets get the judgement  over and done with. I got caught on camera doing 73kmph on a 60kmph zone approaching a toll booth in Andalucía in July. My fault, fair cop etc.

Ticket was issued by DGT at end of August and has just found its way to me. So far so good, I'm still within 20 days to get a 50% discount. but, here is the issue, its impossible to actually pay it!

Fine was issued by DGT. Tried paying via sede.dgt.gob.es but can't get past verification. There is an app but it seems to only work for Spanish residents. The phone line which is meant to be accessible for foreigners has a pre-recorded message saying its not available. I spent -3 hours yesterday trying to pay it but failed to do so.

Any tips? I'm happy to pay so not trying to avoid it, particularly as I am returning to Spain next year so don't want to get locked up when going through passport control!

What's the problem with the verification? Might be easiest to sort that out.

I thought with hire cars the hire company paid and charged the driver directly. Perhaps I've got that wrong.

Maybe contact the hire co. If it's a reputable one, they'll certainly have experience of dealing with this

I had a similar Andalusian speeding ticket via hire car last month.

Fortunately I just bought a pixel phone so was able to translate the several pages of legalese.  It took me 5 minutes to accept the fine, put in my passport details and pay by credit card.

There are one or two Spanish residents on here, failing that either the hire co or the Spanish Embassy

I've had some success going through foreign sites in both Chrome (to translate) and another site to actually enter the details (with the site untranslated) because the translation was slightly messing with the formating/entry

I've just searched through my email. Nothing from the DGT but my history shows I did the forms and payment on pasarela.clave.gob.es and pasarela.dgt.gob.es and paid with my Nationwide Credit Card (a UK based one).
I remember that I got a message that they couldn't send a receipt at the time but it all seems to have worked out fine. The car was hired through Centauro and the fine letter was sent direct from DGT to my home address in the UK.

On a side note I was blown away by the Pixel's ability to point the camera at the letter and see it translated (reproducing the same fonts!) in front of your eyes. Much fun later that week in Wales pointing at names and shouting "It means Sea View" etc.!

Sorted now, the payment site seemed to have an issue with cookies or something else technical. Accessed it in the end via a private browser and everything worked as it should.

BigJohn, I agree, the translation stuff is superb. I translated the letter using my iPhone camera and each website translated to English as I was using them. Clever stuff.

This any help?

https://n332.es/how-to-pay-a-traffic-fine/

Seems to suggest you may have a QR code or details for direct bank transfer on the letter?

Never mind, too slow!

If you were using ad blocker chances are it was stopping the cookies acceptance pop up and stopping you going any further.
