A mate coughed up for a big meal last night and so I want to pay him back. Is there a way to send him money with only an email address or a phone number? I don't know if his uses PayPal. He doesn't want reimbursement and so will not supply other details.
Cash in an envelope through his front door. Or you pay next time.
On my online banking I have the option to 'pay a contact' using a mobile phone number, never used it though and I have no idea how it sends the payment.
You could put the email address into PayPal and send money but I don't know what would happen if the address isn't registered to an account, I presume the payment just wouldn't go through.
Cash in an envelope through his letterbox or just accept his generosity.
Pay next time or pop some beers round as a thanks

I only see him once a year or so and he lives miles away. Cash in envelope won't work. I guess I can see if PayPal bounces a smaller payment first?
Why not make a donation to a charity that you think he might like? Screenshot him the receipt. He might be offended if you try to pay him back after his gesture of goodwill
If he doesn't want it but you feel obliged, why don't you send a gift to him instead? Or stop being British and accept his generosity!
