We are going to Germany a bit last minute (later in August) and are in the process of booking some nights in various mountain huts - these are not your average hut!

Mr Kip speaks some German, I do not (French at my 1980's High School).

Thanks to the B -word it's not that simple to pay for it as our cards are not from an authorised country!

We've got a remittance advice, but how the heck does everyone else pay?

Normal hotels will be done via Booking.com or similar but this is not so simple!

Come on STW be our saviours!

Used credit cards in the French and Italian Alps last summer with no issues. Might be heading Bavaria way ourselves later in the summer so curious.

Get a revolut card in Eur (other providers available) and use that or worst case, they do bank transfers in Eur

Used Wise (it used to be called Transferwise) to send EUR to a French account recently, it was all fine. They seem to do Germany too https://wise.com/gb/send-money/send-money-to-germany

No idea.
But I'm trying to book 5 different mountain huts in Japan at present, most of whom only seem to have a number to call or text and don't speak English...!
So you have my sympathy.

We got there in the end. International transfer from our bank account worked fine once the hut owner sent the correct BIC!

Mostly it's not an issue @rivett it was just this one that caused a problem because it's private not municipal.

I've got a Santander Zero credit card for spends as it doesn't charge conversion fees as long as I don't take cash out.
