I might also look into arranging the slab leading to the top step being the same width or having a join on the centre line rather than having an uneven break but I guess that would now be difficult.

B for me, keeps all the steps uniform.

Would be easier to tell if the photo was from a bit further back and had no extension cable however based on that I'd say a.

I would say A as the little cut slab on the left at the top of B annoys me. Good luck with the J cut on the top right step for A though.

yeah sorry the photo was mid build, (b is a photoshop job to illustrate) the builders have done a, but i am wanting b, as to me it look cleaner, even though it has a small square tile.

to be it feels wrong have a join on a step.

B definitely for me. In fact I agree on C and extend the bricks a little to get rid of the annoying small section completely.

B for me too to keep the steps complete with no joins. I would also put a small piece on the right in line with the brickwork (same as the left) to make it symmetrical.

A, keeps the top slabs uniform and avoids that little square on the left

I was going to say B but now someone has suggested C I think that would be better

C is the way I'd have done it - A is the sort of thing which I would see *EVERY TIME* I looked at the patio. (as well as the ghosts of those buried underneath it, obvs)

ETA - I'd also have spent a couple of quid on some specials to end the run of brick on edge capping at the exposed corners

A better for me. B makes it look a bit like the cut stone at the top is a step, which could lead to those "step up or down when it doesn't actually go anywhere" stumbles. I like when the treads are visually different to the rest.

B is marginally better for me but neither are great. Should've been planned a bit more before a slab was laid.

100% A - keep the flow of tiles on the top the way it’s been designed, B throws that off.

I don't think it matters. It's not as if they're blinds or anything.

B, C would be better, or @johnhighfield 's suggestion and add another small square on the right to make it symmetrical.

C is the answer to a problem that I think could have been avoided by starting at the steps and working out so any difference were at either end of the patio. I can't see from that photo if that would have been possible but I don't see why not.

Surely the answer is take it up and start again, but this time use a tape measure and an hour of time setting out correctly. Either solid steps then one full slab at the top and work off that or grout line in centre of steps at the top

yeah, that's why we've gone with B, i can place a few plant pots over the small tile to mask it. Can't mask a joint on a step.

Had to go and have a look at mine and we have A. Looks better to me as I don't see the steps down when I look out and the little square would look odd I think.
