I’ve got a little nikfisk jet wash (£65 ish so only small) and a one of those spinny head things for cleaning patios. Think it’s a karcher one and about 12” across. Trouble is it’s painfully slow - I’ve got loads of stone flags to do which are super slippy and currently set up has to be moved around at a glacial pace to actually clean anything and avoid leaving spiral marks everywhere.

woukd an upgraded jet wash help or are there better solutions out there (that aren’t chemical)?

You should be able to get a fitting that gives you a sort of wedge of water so you can clean it up and down in sort of strips. I have one of same make so hopefully some fittings will be on their refurb site.

Edit: South Manchester if that's anywhere near for possible lend.

If you’re already using a surface cleaner attachment, then chances are your jet wash just isn’t powerful enough to run it properly. Solutions are either hire/buy a more powerful one, or “get a man in”.

and avoid leaving spiral marks everywhere.

Replace the spiral marks with "Darling we need a more powerful jetwash" on the flagstones and see if they agree you can buy one

Perhaps your patio is worse than mine but my Nilfisk with the patio attachment does a great job. Getting a beefier one would seem to be the answer.

You need the tornado nozzle. The standard one used on cars etc doesn’t work. The tornado is a different beast

Will any of these work on stains left by a trailer load of manure on my block paved drive?
It was well rotted and spilled beyond the plastic sheeting I put down.

I don't think wetandforget or Patio Magic will be upto the task and the current formulation of Jeyes Fluid doesn't work.

I hired a petrol jet wash from Travis or jewson. Was awesome, and fairly cheap

Wet and forget can take months to work fully. Word of warning regarding powerful pressure washers and concrete slabs etc. They will strip the concrete surface as well so repeat washing will expose the aggregate so dont over do it.

Standard houshold bleach. Squirt it on, scrub with a stiff brush and leave it for an hour before washing off.

Ditto the bleach- I lived in Haworth and it worked a treat on slimy flagstones. Jet washing also works, but it still leaves enough slime around and it comes back super quickly. Hydrochloric works super well, but it’s not the safest thing and I’m always nervous applying it or even having it in my house.

I had one of the lowest power nilfisks and used it with their own patio spinny thing, and it worked pretty well. I've got a higher power model now and it does work a fair bit faster but not really enough to be gamechanging I think? But then, I have to admit I just like doing it so maybe I'm more tolerant of slowness?

I bought  a decent Karcher direct from Karcher, they were doing free upgrades in summer.  Really powerful and cleaned everything really well, as above, be careful on soft render or you ll blast it off.  The spinny cleaner attachment worked for the most stubborn bits.

I bought stone cleaner from kingfisher products, it was ok, but with a decent pressure wash it wasn't really needed.  My neighbour has a cheap jetwash, the circular marks on his patio look worse than it did before.

Thanks for the suggestions. Bleach / chemicals are a non-starter as the patio area runs straight to grass and I suspect anything that kills stubborn algae will have a somewhat detrimental effect on my lawn.

The spinny thing does work but it's just slow and I've prob got 50m2 to clean. Took 3+ hrs of constant jetwashing yesterday.

I'm pretty certain that Wet & Forget is ferrous sulphate based judging by the rusty colour that can temporarily appear on stonework, so it's gonna kill moss in your lawn rather than the grass. I've certainly never had any issues with it harming the lawn that it comes into contact with.

OMG I have spent most of Saturday afternoon doing the side of my house and a quick push down the drive to the road.

G0d I hate this!  I hate doing this with a passion.  Along with trimming hedges...

Patio Magic, as suggested above is biodegradable and pet friendly (when dry), so far it's not killed my lawn..

Again I have Nilfisk pressure washer and patio cleaner, & it work fine for me.

I found the Karcher head to be next to useless and end up having to needle jet blast every pavier (4000 of them) inch by inch!

Every time you power wash stone or concrete you make the surface rougher meaning the slime will come back faster each time.

Chemicals FTW

The patio head will be limiting the performance more than the pressure washer.

The bundled patio cleaners are often pretty poor performers, a better one of these would do the job but they are probably £40+ for a decent one

Yep, I've got a karcher T350 patio head not the tiny one that came bundled with the nilfisk washer and it's still painfully slow. I guess chemical are prob the way forward but was trying to avoid going down that route.

+1 Wet and Forget

I got some in the spring having given up using our jet wash (even with patio attachments) to clean our sandstone.

Diluted some in a sprayer and followed the instructions to watch off X hours later and bingo, 95% of crap gone. The rests required a bit more of a scrub.

Simples.

You do realise that all this chat of chemicals and "wet and forget" is completely undermining all justification I have for upgrading my jetwash???

Instead of using bleach on your patio, maybe a big tub of biscuits bicarbonate of soda, left to soak in overnight?

Spray with BAC50 diluted with water (1:8 suggested), leave a week, pressure wash.

It's the active ingredient in Patio Magic, just that product comes pre-diluted.

So either chemicals to destroy your grass or super strong washer to destroy your tiles.
