Moved into this house just over a year ago now , Patio and drive etc had never been cleaned in the 14 years the house had been built( old chap admitted to that !) so out came the pressure washer, everything came up nice and clean, but its only been a year and everything's going back to green and mossy ?? ... apart from jet washing it again, anything better to use to clean and maybe help keeping them cleaner for longer ?

Wet & forget works quite well. Sold at Costco. Dilute it down and spray it on when it’s not windy.

This stuff. Seriously. Christ only knows what they put in it but I’d keep it away from anything you’d like to live. 😳

We’ve got a stone path and nothing keeps the slimy mould and moss off it like this shit.

Spray it all over, leave it, then give it a scrub with a stiff brush then hose it off.

Job jobbed!

Wet & forget +1.

Apply. Let it get on and do its magic throughout the year. Re-apply next year. Get on with your life.

Just ask over on the classic car thread. There'll be centuries of collective experience of cleaning drives over there.

I got some patio cleaner from the magic aisle in Aldi. Thought it had done bugger all but realised about 6 months later the number of black lichen spots had reduced dramatically. Sounds like this Wet & Forget stuff - don’t expect any change in the short term!

Jetwash seems to work as well as anything I've tried. And doesn't kill the plants.

Although the grapes are staining the patio which is irritating

Cheap laundry detergent, sprinkle over oil stain, brush in, leave. Get annoyed that you now have a clean patch in the middle of the driveway.

Been a pressure washer for years but it badly damages concrete surfaces and still doesn't remove all staining. I also have a sneaky suspicion it forces the organics deeper into the surface. When's best to apply Wet and Forget? Is it worth a final pressure wash first to sped up the process. Does it remove dirt as well as the organics?

I'm following this as I'm just about to do mine.

We moved in last year and I spent a weekend blasting 10 years worth of black crud off the ground. Now it's almost as bad as it was then, just more green than black.

The Wet & Forget stuff says don't hose prior to use. Does it require any scrubbing or cleaning afterwards?

The problem is waiting for dry ground. It could be months away.

Jet wash the whole area clean, repoint any mortar you blow out, let it dry and then

Jeyes fluid mixed with water in a spray pump every few months.

Rise it off so you don't go killing everything that touches the driveway / patio mind.

I just use a jet wash - don't want to put any chemicals on it because of the dog.

My dad got something for cleaning farmyards, can't recall what is what called but anything that can deal with a concrete slab that gets shat on all day long won't have much trouble with your patio. His certainly came up like new, might be worth a search for that

Dairy Hypochlorite from a farm supplies place. Just don't get any on your clothes.

Pure bleach in a watering can, wear wellies as it will damage your jeans and shoes, water on leave overnight then soak slightly and rough brush and then hosepipe or jet wash of allow to dry and thomsons water seal or similar on a dry day or any silicone based sealant.

+ 1 wet and forget. I did our patio 5 days ago and already, the moss/green has gone. No brushing, no washing and the dog is still alive too! Going to do the shed, fence and anything else that looks a little green when we have a dry day. You only need 6 hours of dry weather after application.

When’s best to apply Wet and Forget?

When it's not blowing a gale or super sunny. An overcast day is great.

Is it worth a final pressure wash first to sped up the process.

If you can be bothered, but not necessary. I found pressure washing started to strip off the top layer of patio slabs - YMMV. It does take a while to work, but you literally don't have to do anything else once applied.

Does it remove dirt as well as the organics?

Yes.
