I read something about this guy (maybe this time last year) - BBC has run another story on him.
Not an easy read - got a bit dusty when I read about the calls he can't take - but worth it. While we put people who can drive fast, or kick or hit balls on pedestals, there are actually some real heroes out there.

Absolute hero. We appear to be honouring the wrong people.
I read that article, 2 things jumped out at me.
1. What he is having to do is nuts, how long before it overwhelms him? How broken are social services.
2. How many totally screwed up people we have in society, have they always been there, just quietly hidden? Is modern life creating more or does our modern society allow more people to spiral down? Is there more an expectation that someone else will deal with your problems?
I read that the other day and was hugely moved by the stories that people have lived through and Pastor Micks work.
In terms of honouring these peoples dedication is to properly fund the services that they provide and increase the span and scope.
I'm local and have two weeks off after Christmas.
Planning on popping down and seeing what I can do to help.

I have known our local Catholic Priest, Father David Featherstone, very well for many years. From personal experience, I can confirm that he is an exceptional individual.
