I'm currently doing a project for some offices that are a Passivhaus.

It's basically an acoustic solution for a meeting/Zooming room they have that echoes a bit and the plan is to use acoustic moss, stuck to cnc'd mdf shapes on the walls and ceilings.

It's a bit like this below but my design is in a series of specific shapes rather than entire wall panels.

The original plan was and is, to use 3m Command strips to stick the shapes to the walls and ceilings as I am not allowed to put any mechanical fixings into anywhere.

I was a little dubious from the start that these would hold the 6mm mdf and moss, especially on the ceiling but the client seems to think they will be adequate based on his experience using them for artworks.

I just wondered if anyone here might know much about Passivhaus construction and whether I can bolster things up with some fine pins here and there to help things hold, or would I be piercing any membrane or something close to the surface?

If Command strips don't work alone, I may have to gripfill the parts if I can't pin, and that would not be ideal I don't think...

Gripfill is utter turd compared to the newer filler adhesives that are available
Stickjng mdf to a cellotex wall i would be on Soudal Fix All, or Sticks like @@@@ Turbo.
Gripfill doesn't grab as quickly or stick as well.
Are the people in that office colour blind? Gotta be a gov funded green initiative gig spending a grant or some such

Architect here, I would speak to the architect if oyu can and see what the limitations are, if oyu haven't already? if they say no then it ill be due to piercing airtightness membranes which are critical in Passive Construction. When we do it (domestic) we have a service void behind the plasterboard to avoid penetrating the airtightness layer so oyu can fix certain things to walls?
try and discuss with the designer rather than client?

Interesting thanks. I kind of meant Gripfill in the same sense as you might say Hoover for a vacuum cleaner.
I'll check those ones out though as they sound more suited.
I hate using actual Gripfill, though I do enjoy the aroma and it does seem to have decent grab compared to some others I've tried.

Thanks @fenboy. That's really useful. I knew there would be someone here that knew their onions.
I'll speak more with the client and get him to get a definitive answer from the architect as like you say, there may well be an initial layer that I am fine to fix to.

I've just built four Passivhaus homes for Mansfield District Council. We built them traditionally (brick, block and wet plaster) to avoid this exact problem. High levels of airtightness are vital (less than 0.6ACH).
