Hi
2006 passat estate new shape

Have been trying to sort out drivers door this arvo after helpful suggestions. Was struggling to get door panel off and now find out that other back door now not opening from outside.

So my logic that the door mechanism in the drivers door is possibly not the main problem as happening with 3 other doors.

I have tried to check out suggested problems with water under window screen on passenger side and footwell but not found anything obvious.

Suggestions from people in the know?

One problem area with the passat is where the cables run from the door pillar to the door. The wiring harness is too tight ie not enough slack to cope with the door opening fully. This fatigues the harness internally over time causing faults with the doors electrics. See if yours feels tight and look for any chaffing on the grommet holes in the body and door. Good luck.

Have had exactly the same problem affecting drivers, passengers and passenger side rear door on 2007 passat recently fixed by local independent garage. Their diagnosis was corrosion of the wiring from external handle to lock, once replaced all doors now working and done at very reasonable cost. No reason given as to the cause of the corrosion but hopefully will not reoccur! The garage are very reputable so I trust their opinion. Hope this helps.
