It's coming up to my 30th, and I've gotta sort out some entertainment for my party. I am looking to hopefully just play an iPod through the function rooms speakers (owner has assured me that these will be powerful enough for my party) with a preloaded playlist on, but I need to source a load of music. I'm guessing Spotify and the like might be the best way to go to legitimately get a load of music arranged in a playlist and tailored to my preferences without spending a fortune, but I have never used it or any similar apps, so I need to pick the STW collective brain...

What have you used, and what worked well for you lot? What was s#*t? Will I die (unlikely I guess, but always worth asking)? And how much am I going to spend in order to get what I'm after?

I think you can get three months free spotify premium at the moment, which would be the best way IMO. Spotify free has ads and can't be used away from wifi.

Just download it on a pc and have a play, it's pretty intuitive to use, the sound quality is fine for that sort of thing. Even has a feature that blends one track into the next.

It doesn't have a few of the major artists, but if you have those tracks locally you can still play them.

Spotify would do it (and similar), but to be safe you'd need to download the songs to the iPod for offline playback (presume you have an iPod touch?). You'd need the Spotify Premium service for this (£10/month).

If you don't you are a) reliant on the pubs broadband which could be rubbish, or b) Spotify's servers, which although usually very reliable have been know to drop.

There are also loads of party playlists so one of those may save you some work.
