Just replaced the bumper on the car and refitted the existing sensors to the new bumper.
I've positioned them in exactly the same place as the old bumper, on testing, I'm getting the beeps as if something is close when there is nothing behind me. However I am getting the continuous tone when there IS something very close.
Everything was working fine when I started the replacement and they're just push fit connectors.
What could I have done wrong?
Is there a special way to position the sensors?
Have you connected them up in the same order as before?
Yes, all connected up in the same order and sensors in the same position.
Ultrasonic work even if twisted / no mounted straight- they're not polarised.
However if a sensor is pushed a little too far back into the mounting hole - it could cause that kind of symptom - wouldn't take much 2-3mm.
If they're all flush/ normally proud then I'd guess at one being damaged - can they be independently disconnected?
Maybe dirt/water/ cobweb in the sensor opening ?
Are you sure you fitted them facing outward?
Hmm, the only thing I can suggest is give them a good clean with some soapy water on the outside faces, in case something is coated on one.
If theres still a problem after that, I would suggest disconnect the sensors one by one to narrow down which one is the "problem" one.
Tried the soapy water yesterday and that didn't work.
They all seem to be slightly angled in the shroud that goes through the bumper but it's a uniformed angle across all four sensors which makes me think that they're in the right position.
Might the fact that I gave them a spray with a water displacer before fitting be causing it?
