You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I've just been surprised with a short notice trip to Morocco. Great. Never been there, it looks fun, flights are paid for, looking forward to it.
The catch is I have to get myself from Sheffield to Gatwick. I haven't been anywhere near London or the M25 for many years which has been working out just fine.
The next train after my return flight is at 4:20am and I start work in Sheffield at 8am. So I'm driving.
Now there's a bewildering array of options when you search for parking near Gatwick. The ones on the official site are a minimum of £100 the 4 days I want. I'd like to reduce this as much as possible. But also not have my van stolen. Should I just suck it up and stay on site, or hand the keys over at an independent and hope my transfer bus turns up?
Any Gatwick regulars in the house? Or anyone live around the corner? I'll exchange beer money for parking my T5 on your drive!
(I'm just rambling because I'm scared of London and I get shafted any time I go anywhere near the place)
Don't use an independent. Your van will end up parked in a field or residential street in Crawley.
Would have thought you could use the official long stay for well under 100 if you pre-book.
Purple parking are our usual bet, Mrs BD gets NHS discount from them so that’s mostly why we choose them. About a 15 bus ride from the terminal and cars are parked in a huge great multistory thing so no worries about field joyrides.
No idea what they charge at short notice but we’ve always found them much cheaper than the “official” airport parking.
I've booked into the standard Long Stay car park for 8 days for about £50... 2 days before leaving.

I'm glad you said that, I just came across them. They look fairly legit, have good reviews and a youtube video with a big purple bus in it! Plus it's only £40.99.

Yeah you'd think that wouldn't you! £100 is rock bottom on the Gatwick official options.
What about a hire car?
Most of the big name prob got a dept there.
Drop off at airport, pick up another on on rtn.
Hire car isn't a bad shout.
Then it's £40 train, no worries about parking and £100 one way in a small car from Enterprise which is 5 minutes brisk walk from work on Friday morning. Where I will be walking around like a Zombie all day.
The only risk is a delayed flight. We're supposed to land at 23:10 and the Enterprise desk closes at 23:30.
Also the cracked exhaust manifold on the van is of no concern whatsoever. Bonus.
Mrs K looked around and for the last 2 years we've got the long stay drop-off parking for £94 - 10 days. Its so simple - you drive to the drop off in short stay, swap your keys for the receipt and walk 5 mins to the terminal. On the way back walk 5 mins from the terminal to pick up your keys and drive home.
The key to cheap parking with the official Gatwick parking is to book it very early. As that isn’t an option for you I could suggest this guy : https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/HOLIDAY-GATWICK-PARKING/302719011001?hash=item467b7588b9:i:302719011001
I have used him a couple of times in the past (admittedly a few years ago) and always found him very good and reliable.
Last couple of Gatwick trips have been early flights for us so we drive the night before then stay in a hotel that includes parking and bus to the airport. Price is similar to parking alone and it's a much less stressful drive and a longer time in bed.
Take a look at JustPark.com
people with spare space on their drive rent it out. Way cheaper than airport parking.
There usually lots of places free close to the airport so can to and from the parking spot doesn’t cost too much.
When I went skiing in March I paid ~£40 for a weeks parking and booked 2 days before I flew out. Cab was £5 each way.
There's been a development. My van is borked. It's had a new battery and starter motor and this morning it was stone dead. No turning over, not even the lcd clock works.
This cheap trip is turning into a ball ache!
Try holiday extras, it's a local company they do good parking rates at Gatwick using the Long Term car park.

Cophall Farm Parking .
Used them about 20 times . 12 mins from Gatwick, about £40 a week . Great service any time day or night . Very professional set up with hundreds of vehicles in and out daily.
If you get your van sorted .. ... .....
I've used the Gatwick Summer Special parking the last few times I've flown, its further out but is well served by buses from outside one of the terminals. Its only a quick hop on the monorail between the terminals.
Do check the price of the other terminal. I saved £30 by staying in a South terminal car park and using the monorail to the North recently.
I fly from gatwick ~10 times a year and normally just park on the street next to the evans warehouse and walk in the back door.. Total cost £0 Never had any trouble but my car is a POS
