pondering a family weekend end of July, and thinking about options and advice.

We would be flying from Glasgow, and have 2 boys, aged 9 and 13. Tentative idea is flights Fri and Monday, with 3 nights (fri, sat, sun) in centralish Paris family type hotel, train to Disneyland for daytrip on Sat, then Sunday joining the throngs of Tour spectators.

Probably going to be costly, but part of my 50th so wanting something a bit special. Any thoughts on viability, places to stay, options etc ?

Thanks

Family hotel & "centralish" might be tough (unless you're planning on spending £££) - IME, everything in central Paris is a bit you-couldn't-swing-a-cat-in-here. YMMV though. Maybe airbnb it for an apartment or something similar? Although, you might have to be quick about it for the Tour finale.

Getting around is pretty simple. The metro is pretty easy to use & navigate...though you can easily make the same mistake as in London i.e. take a metro for a distance that would be easily walked. Hopefully, for that time of year, weather should be good for strolling anyway.

Enjoy, Paris for the Tour finale is on my list...haven't got round to it yet though.

thanks for that. I suspected hotel situation and it will be premium time, maybe will try and look a bit further out, but have no knowledge of the area. Looks like around 40 mins from city centre to Eurodisney by train, so might aim somewhere in between, thanks. Had thought of airbnb but kind of prefer the easy hotel option..

Yeah, with kids, prob easier to at least have the option of somebody else doing breakfast. When it's just the two of you, you can freestyle it a bit more.

Stay at Disneyland? - it won't come much more family friendly than that in Paris.

We stayed here in October, rooms not massive though, but unless you go really up market this seems to be the case with most Paris hotels...

iainc, tour finale obviously, but are you going for Paris or going for Disneyland?

If the latter, GLA - CDG, then take the magic shuttle to Disneyland will see you make the most of your time at Disneyland (Fri, Sat and Mon morn), and you can easily take the train into Central Paris for the Tour finale on Sunday.

nobeer - indeed, that's why we are only thinking of a day at the themepark 🙂 Eldest was there last year with school anyway !

davieg - useful info, thanks. the latter is probably the plan we will end up with, but conscious that we will likely get a 2 day park pass and only use it on the Sat, so wondering if staying in city and doing the themepark as a day trip on the Saturday would work out cheaper - will do some research, cheers

I'd certainly price up staying at Disney - the 'cheaper' hotels aren't too horrendously priced.

If you stay at one of the Disneyland hotels it normally includes acces to both parks on your day of arrival and day of departure. You can also get into the park at 8am rather than 10am as you would with a general admission ticket. We've stayed at the two 'budget' hotels (Cheyenne and Santa Fe) that are within 15 minutes walk of the park entrance as I'd much rather walk back through the Disney village and along a river than queue for the shuttle buses!

We stayed a few nights at The Grand Tulip, in Marne Le Vallee, to visit Disney. A few mins walk to the station for train to Disney & Paris. If we go again I will book the same place. Hotel was great & the family room we booked was massive. Booked through booking.com, cant remember what we paid, but it was hundreds less than staying in Paris.

Staying in Central Paris, with kids, would be my idea of hell, not mention the cost. But as a city, Paris was simply fab. Truly lovely city, & we had a great time there. Be warned though...its huge.

Yep, we've stayed at Cheyenne aswell.
Did the job quite nicely.
top tip - if you wear trousers with suitably sized 'poachers pockets' to breakfast, you'll not need to buy much lunch either..

Whatever you do - don't stay in the Formula hotel in Marne la vallee - it looked OK when we arrived (we stayed there overnight before going to Disney) however the following morning we looked out of the window and thought we were in a warzone.
